Surah Saad

This Surah was revealed in Makkah and it has 88 verses. In the commentary of Majma’ul Bayan it is written that the reward for reciting this Surah is equal to the weight of the mountain of Prophet Dawood (a.s.). Allah (s.w.t.) inspires the reciter of this Surah to avoid every type of sin – big or small.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) has said that the reward for reciting Surah Saad is compared to the reward given to the Holy Prophets and the one who often recites this Surah will be taken to Jannah along with his family and loved ones; to such an extent that even those servants of his whom he loves will be with him in Jannah.

If this Surah is placed under the tyrant ruler, his reign will not last for more than three days before people will see his true nature and will start hating him. This will eventually lead to his downfall.

SAAAD WAL QUR-AANE ZIZ ZIKR.

BALIL LAZEENA KAFAROO FEE I’ZZATINW WA SHEQAAQ.

the faithless indeed dwell in conceit and defiance.

KAM AHLAKNAA MIN QABLEHIM MIN QARNIN FA-NAADAW WA LAATA HEENA MANAAS.

How many a generation We have destroyed before them! They cried out [for help], but gone was the time for escape.

WA A’JEBOO AN JAAA-AHUM MUNZERUM MINHUM, WA QAALAL KAAFEROONA HAAZAA SAAHERUN KAZZAAB.

They consider it odd that there should come to them a warner from among themselves, and the faithless say, ‘This is a magician, a mendacious liar.’

AJA-A’LAL AALEHATA ELAAHANW WAAHEDAA, INNA HAAZAA LA-SHAY-UN O’JAAB.

‘Has he reduced the gods to one god? This is indeed an odd thing!’

MAA SAME’NAA BEHAAZAA FIL MILLATIL AAKHERAH, IN HAAZAA ILLAKH TELAAQ.

We did not hear of this in the latter-day creed. This is nothing but a fabrication.

A-UNZELA A’LAYHIZ ZIKRO MIM BAYNENAA, BAL HUM FEE SHAKKIM MIN ZIKREE, BAL LAMMAA YAZOOQOO A’ZAAB.

Has the Reminder been sent down to him out of [all of] us?’ Indeed, they are in doubt concerning My Reminder. Indeed, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

AM LAHUM MULKUS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZE WA MAA BAYNAHOMAA, FALYARTAQOO FIL ASBAAB.

Do they own the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them? [If so,] let them ascend [to the higher spheres] by the means [of ascension].

JUNDUM MAA HONAALEKA MAHZOOMUM MENAL AHZAAB.

[They are but] a host routed out there of the factions.

KAZZABAT QABLAHUM QAWMO NOOHINW WA A’ADUNW WA FIR-A’WNO ZUL AWTAAD.

Before them Noah’s people impugned [their apostle] and [so did the people of] ‘Ad, and Pharaoh, the Impaler [of his victims],

WA SAMOODO WA QAWMO LOOTINW WA ASHAABUL AYKAH, OOLAAA-EKAL AHZAAB.

and Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the inhabitants of Aykah: those were the factions.

IN KULLUN ILLAA KAZZABAR ROSOLA FA-HAQQA E’QAAB.

There was not any one but such as impugned the apostles; so My retribution became due [against them].

WA MAA YANZORO HAA-OLAAA-E ILLAA SAYHATANW WAAHEDATAM MAA LAHAA MIN FAWAAQ.

These [too] do not await but a single Cry, which will not grant [them] any respite.

ISBIR A’LAA MAA YAQOOLOONA WAZ KUR A’BDANAA DAAWOODA ZAL AYD, INNAHU AWWAAB.

Be patient over what they say, and remember Our servant, David, [the man] of strength. Indeed he was a penitent [soul].

When they entered into the presence of David, he was alarmed by them. They said, ‘Do not be afraid. [We are only] two contenders: one of us has bullied the other. So judge justly between us, and do not exceed [the bounds of justice], and show us the right path.’

He said, ‘He has certainly wronged you by asking your ewe in addition to his own ewes, and indeed many partners bully one another, except such as have faith and do righteous deeds, and few are they.’ Then David knew that We had tested him, whereat he pleaded with his Lord for forgiveness, and fell down in prostration and repented.
