Merits
This Surah was revealed in Makkah and contains a total of 165 verses. Imam Reza (a.s.) has said that this Surah was revealed accompanied by the descending of seventy thousand angels. These angels will ask forgiveness from Allah (s.w.t.) for any person who recites this Surah, and they will continue doing so until the Day of Judgement.
Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said that if a person writes this Surah using musk or saffron and then drinks it (ie. puts the written Surah in water for its writing to dissolve) for six consecutive days, that person will be blessed abundantly and will be free from all problems and ailments. He will not loose his health or fall sick.
The 6th Holy Imam (a.s.) also said that this Surah must be accorded due respect as the name of Allah (s.w.t.) appears 70 times in it. If people knew the benefits of reciting this Surah, they would never leave it.

QUL INNA SALAATEE WA NOSOKEE WA MAHYAAYA WA MAMAATEE LILLAAHE RABBIL A’ALAMEEN.
Say, ‘Indeed my prayer and my worship, my life and my death are for the sake of Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
LAA SHAREEKA LAH, WA BEZAALEKA OMIRTO WA ANAA AWWALUL MUSLEMEEN.
He has no partner, and I have been commanded [to follow] this [creed], and I am the first of those who submit [to Allah].’
QUL AGHAYRAL LAAHE ABGHEE RABBANW WA HOWA RABBO KULLE SHAY, WA LAA TAKSEBO KULLO NAFSIN ILLAA A’LAYHAA, WA LAA TAZERO WAAZERATUNW WIZRA UKHRAA, SUMMA ELAA RABBEKUM MARJE-O’KUM FA-YONABBE-OKUM BEMAA KUNTUM FEEHE TAKHTALEFOON.
Say, ‘Shall I seek a Lord other than Allah, while He is the Lord of all things?’ No soul does evil except against itself, and no bearer shall bear another’s burden; then to your Lord will be your return, whereat He will inform you concerning that about which you used to differ.
WA HOWAL LAZEE JA-A’LAKUM KHALAAA-EFAL ARZE WA RAFA-A’ BA’ZAKUM FAWQA BA’ZIN DARAJAATIL LE-YABLOWAKUM FEE MAA AATAAKUM, INNA RABBAKA SAREE-U’L E’QAAB, WA INNAHU LA-GHAFOORUR RAHEEM.
It is He who has made you successors on the earth, and raised some of you in rank above others so that He may test you in respect to what He has given you. Indeed your Lord is swift in retribution, and indeed, He is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
