Merits

This Surah was revealed in Madinah and it has 75 verses. In the commentary of Majma’ul Bayaan, it is narrated from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a.s.) that whoever recites Surah al-Anfaal and [Surah al-Tawba](A13) every month, he will be protected from being a hypocrite and will be counted among the followers of Ameerul Momineen – Imam Ali (a.s.), and on the day of Qiyamah he will eat from the table-spread of Jannah together with all the followers of Ahlul Bayt.

This Surah contains the verse about khums, which is the right of the Ahlul Bayt. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said that he will, on the Day of Judgement, intercede for the person who recites this Surah and will bear witness that the reciter of this Surah was free from hypocrisy. Keeping Surah al-Anfaal in your possession at all times ensures that you get your rights that have been taken from you and your legitimate desires are fulfilled.

They ask you concerning the anfaal. Say, ‘The anfaal belong to Allah and the Apostle.’ So be wary of Allah and settle your differences, and obey Allah and His Apostle, should you be faithful.

But if they seek to betray you, then they have already betrayed Allah earlier, and He gave [you] power over them; and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

INNAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA HAAJAROO WA JAAHADOO BE-AMWAALEHIM WA ANFOSEHIM FEE SABEELIL LAAHE WAL LAZEENA AAWAW WA NASAROO OOLAAA-EKA BA’ZOHUM AWLEYAAA-O BA’Z, WAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA LAM YOHAAJEROO MAA LAKUM MINW WALAAYATEHIM MIN SHAY-IN HATTAA YOHAAJEROO, WA ENIS TANSAROOKUM FID DEENE FA-A’LAYKOMUN NASRO ILLAA A’LAA QAWMIM BAYNAKUM WA BAYNAHUM MEESAAQ, WAL LAAHO BEMAA TA’MALOONA BASEER.

Indeed those who have believed and migrated and waged jihad with their possessions and persons in the way of Allah, and those who gave [them] shelter and help—they are heirs of one another. As for those who have believed but did not migrate, you have no heirdom in relation to them whatsoever until they migrate. Yet if they ask your help for the sake of religion, it is incumbent on you to help them, excepting against a people with whom you have a treaty; and Allah watches what you do.

WAL LAZEENA KAFAROO BA’ZOHUM AWLEYAAA-O BA’Z, ILLAA TAF-A’LOOHO TAKUN FITNATUN FIL ARZE WA FASAADUN KABEER.

As for the faithless, they are heirs of one another. Unless you do the same, there will be strife in the land and great corruption.

WAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA HAAJAROO WA JAAHADOO FEE SABEELIL LAAHE WAL LAZEENA AAWAW WA NASAROO OOLAAA-EKA HOMUL MOAMENOONA HAQQAA, LAHUM MAGHFERATUNW WA RIZQUN KAREEM.

Those who have believed, migrated, and waged jihad in the way of Allah, and those who gave them shelter and help, it is they who are truly the faithful. For them shall be forgiveness and a noble provision.

WAL LAZEENA AAMANOO MIM BA’DO WA HAAJAROO WA JAAHADOO MA-A’KUM FA-OOLAAA-EKA MINKUM, WA OOLUL ARHAAME BA’ZOHUM AWLAA BE-BA’ZIN FEE KETAABIL LAAH, INNAL LAAHA BE-KULLE SHAY-IN A’LEEM.

Those who believed afterwards and migrated, and waged jihad along with you, they belong to you; but the blood relatives are more entitled to inherit from one another in the Book of Allah. Indeed Allah has knowledge of all things.
