Merits
Second dua: This supplicatory prayer has been mentioned by Sayyid Ibn Tawus.
Zakat al-Fitrah: It is worth mentioning that Zakat al-Fitrah is one of the confirmed obligations, since the acceptance of one’s fasting is dependent upon the defrayment of this alms. It is also security against death up to the next year. In this verse of the Holy Qur’an, Almighty Allah has mentioned Zakat before the prayers: “He indeed shall be successful who pays Zakat, magnifies the name of his Lord, and prays. 87/14-15”
Soil of Imam al-Husayn’s tomb: Shaykh al-Mufid has mentioned that it is advisable to swallow a piece of the soil of Imam al-Husayn’s tomb, for it is remedy for all illnesses.
Duas for the ‘Id prayer: It is also recommended to say the supplicatory prayers that have been mentioned by Sayyid Ibn Tawus in Iqbal al-A’mal. Among these supplicatory prayers is the one that Abu-Hamzah al-Thumali has reported Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) as saying: When you ready yourself for joining the congregational Friday Prayers and the ‘Id Prayers, you may say this supplicatory prayer.
Text and Translation
Duas after Fajr & the Eid Prayer
After the Fajr prayer and after the Eid al-Fitr prayer, recite the dua said after the obligatory prayers on the night of Eid, which begins with (Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar).
After the Fajr prayer, recite the dua that begins:
ALLAAHUMMA INNEE TAWAJJAHTU ILAYKA BIMUHAMMADIN IMAAMEE
O Allah, I have turned to You in the name of Muhammad, my leader...
However, Shaykh al-Tusi has mentioned that this prayer is said after the ‘Id al-Fitr Prayer (Salat al-’Id).
Zakat al-Fitrah & Ghusl
Pay Zakat al-Fitrah, a single sa’ (a measure) for each person, before the time of the ‘Id al-Fitr Prayer, with details as shown in books of Muslim jurisprudence.
Bathe on this day.
It is more preferable to bathe oneself in a river, if possible.
In the word of Shaykh al-Tusi, the time of bathing is the period between dawn (fajr) and the ‘Id al-Fitr Prayer.
According to a Hadith, when you want to bathe yourself (in a river), try to be under shadow or under a wall.
When you begin bathing, say:
ALLAAHUMMA EEMAANAN BIKA WA TASDEEQAN BIKITAABIKA WA ATTIBAA'A SUNNATI NABIYYIKA MUHAMMADIN SALLAL LAAHU A'LAYHI WA AALIH
O Allah, believing in You, fully aware of Your Book, and following the traditions of Your Prophet Muhammad, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household, (I take bath).
You may then mention the Name of Almighty Allah and bathe yourself.
After bathing, say:
ALLAAHUMMAJ'ALHU KAFFAARATAN LIZUNOOBEE WA TAHHIR DEENEE ALLAAHUMMA AZHIB A'NNID DANAS.
O Allah, (please) consider this to wipe out my sins and purify my faith. O Allah, (please) remove filth from me
Preparing for the Eid Prayer
Put on the best clothes, apply perfumes, and offer the prayer in an open place, other than Holy Makkah.
Eat something, as a breaking of the fast, before the ‘Id al-Fitr Prayer.
It is preferable to break the fast with some dates or a piece of candy.
Swallow a piece of the soil of Imam al-Husayn’s tomb.
Do not leave your house for the congregational ‘Id al-Fitr Prayer before sunrise.
When you ready yourself for the congregational Friday or ‘Id prayers, say:

O Allah, if one, on this day, prepares oneself, takes pains, gets ready, or prepares oneself to visit another one, hoping for his aid, gifts, benefits, and grants; for You alone, my Lord, is my readiness, preparations, taking pains, training, and inclination in the hope of gaining Your aid, gifts, grants, benefits, bounties, and donations. I find myself celebrating one of the feasts commemorated by the nation of Your Prophet, Muhammad, blessings of Allah be upon him and his Household. I have not come to You, today, carrying a righteous deeds that I may trust to present before You nor have I introduced a creature as my interceder before You; rather, I submissively draw near You confessing of my wrongdoings and my offenses to myself. So, O All-great, O Allgreat, O All-great, (please) forgive my grave wrongdoings, for, verily, no one can forgive serious transgressions save You. O He save Whom there is no god! O most Merciful of all the merciful!
