Dua No. 45 of Sahifa al-Kamila (Farewell to Ramazan)

Text and Translation

اللَّهُمَّ يَا مَنْ لَا يَرْغَبُ فِي الْجَزَاءِ

ALLAAHUMMA YAA MAN LAA YARGHABU FIL JAZAA'

O God, O He who desires no repayment!

وَيَا مَنْ لَا يَنْدَمُ عَلَى الْعَطَاءِ

WA YAA MAN LAA YANDAMU A'LAL A'TAA'

O He who shows no remorse at bestowal!

وَيَا مَنْ لَا يُكَافِئُ عَبْدَهٗ عَلَى السَّوَاءِ

WA YAA MAN LAA YUKAAFI'U A'BDAHOO A'LAS SAWAA'

O He who rewards not His servant tit for tat!

مِنَّتُكَ ابْتِدَاءٌ، وَعَفْوُكَ تَفَضُّلٌ

MINNATUKAB TIDAA'UN WA A'FWUKA TAFADDUL

Your kindness is a new beginning, Your pardon gratuitous bounty,

وَعُقُوبَتُكَ عَدْلٌ، وَقَضَاؤُكَ خِيَرَةٌ

WA U'QOOBATUKA A'DLUN WA QADAA'UKA KHIYARAH

Your punishment justice, Your decree a choice for the best!

اِنْ اَعْطَيْتَ لَمْ تَشُبْ عَطَاءَكَ بِمَنٍّ

IN A'TAYTA LAM TASHUB A'TAA'AKA BIMANN

If You bestow, You stain not Your bestowal with obligation,

وَاِنْ مَنَعْتَ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَنْعُكَ تَعَدِّياً

WA IN MANA'TA LAM YAKUN MAN'UKA TA'ADDIYAA

and if You withhold, You withhold not in transgression.

تَشْكُرُ مَنْ شَكَرَكَ وَاَنْتَ اَلْهَمْتَهٗ شُكْرَكَ

TASHKURU MAN SHAKARAKA WA ANTA ALHAMTAHOO SHUKRAK

You show gratitude to him who thanks You, while You have inspired him to thank You.

وَتُكَافِئُ مَنْ حَمِدَكَ وَاَنْتَ عَلَّمْتَهٗ حَمْدَكَ

WA TUKAAFI'U MAN HAMIDAKA WA ANTA A'LLAMTAHOO HAMDAK

You reward him who praises You, while though You have taught him Your praise.

تَسْتُرُ عَلَى مَنْ لَوْ شِئْتَ فَضَحْتَهٗ

TASTURU A'LAA MAN LAW SHI'TA FADAHTAH

You cover him whom, if You willed, You would expose,

وَتَجُودُ عَلَى مَنْ لَوْ شِئْتَ مَنَعْتَهٗ

WA TAJOODU A'LAA MAN LAW SHI'TA MANA'TAH

and You are generous toward him from whom, if You willed, You would withhold.

وَكِلَاهُمَا اَهْلٌ مِنْكَ لِلْفَضِيحَةِ وَالْمَنْعِ

WA KILAAHUMAA AHLUN MINKA LIL FADEEHATI WAL MAN'

Both are worthy of Your exposure and withholding,

غَيْرَ اَنَّكَ بَنَيْتَ اَفْعَالَكَ عَلَى التَّفَضُّلِ

GHAYRA ANNAKA BANAYTA AF'AALAKA A'LAT TAFADDUL

but You have founded Your acts upon gratuitous bounty,

وَاَجْرَيْتَ قُدْرَتَكَ عَلَى التَّجَاوُزِ

WA AJRAYTA QUDRATAKA A'LAT TAJAAWUZ

channelled Your power into forbearance,

وَتَلَقَّيْتَ مَنْ عَصَاكَ بِالْحِلْمِ

WA TALAQQAYTA MAN A'SAAKA BIL HILM

received him who disobeyed You with clemency,

وَاَمْهَلْتَ مَنْ قَصَدَ لِنَفْسِهٖ بِالظُّلْمِ

WA AMHALTA MAN QASADA LINAFSIHEE BIZ ZULM

and disregarded him who intended wrongdoing against himself.

تَسْتَنْظِرُهُمْ بِاَنَاتِكَ اِلَى الْاِنَابَةِ، وَتَتْرُكُ مُعَاجَلَتَهُمْ اِلَى التَّوْبَةِ

TASTANZIRUHUM BI-ANAATIKA ILAL INAABATI WA TATRUKU MU'AAJALATAHUM ILAT TAWBAH

You await their turning back without haste and refrain from rushing them toward repentance,

لِكَيْلَا يَهْلِكَ عَلَيْكَ هَالِكُهُمْ

LIKAYLAA YAHLIKA A'LAYKA HAALIKUHUM

so that the perisher among them may not perish because of You

وَلَا يَشْقَى بِنِعْمَتِكَ شَقِيُّهُمْ

WA LAA YASHQAA BINI'MATIKA SHAQIYYUHUM

and the wretched may not be wretched through Your favour,

اِلَّا عَنْ طُولِ الْاِعْذَارِ اِلَيْهِ

ILLAA A'N TOOLIL I'DHAARI ILAYH

but only after Your prolonged excusing him

وَبَعْدَ تَرَادُفِ الْحُجَّةِ عَلَيْهِ

WA BA'DA TARAADUFIL HUJJATI A'LAYH

and successive arguments against him,

كَرَماً مِنْ عَفْوِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ

KARAMAN MIN A'FWIKA YAA KAREEM

as an act of generosity through Your pardon, O Generous,

وَعَائِدَةً مِنْ عَطْفِكَ يَا حَلِيمُ

WA A'A'IDATAN MIN A'TFIKA YAA HALEEM

and an act of kindliness through Your tenderness, O Clement!

اَنْتَ الَّذِي فَتَحْتَ لِعِبَادِكَ بَاباً

ANTAL LADHEE FATAHTA LI-I'BAADIKA BAABAA

It is You who have opened for Your servants a door

اِلَى عَفْوِكَ، وَسَمَّيْتَهُ التَّوْبَةَ

ILAA A'FWIKA WA SAMMAYTAHUT TAWBAH

to Your pardon, which You have named 'repentance'.

وَجَعَلْتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْبَابِ دَلِيلًا مِنْ وَحْيِكَ

WA JA'ALTA A'LAA DHAALIKAL BAABI DALEELAN MIN WAHYIK

You have placed upon that door a pointer from Your revelation,

لِئَلَّا يَضِلُّوا عَنْهُ، فَقُلْتَ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ

LI-ALLAA YADILLOO A'NHU FAQULTA TABAARAKAS MUK

lest they stray from it: You have said (blessed is Your Name),

تُوبُوا اِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً عَسَى رَبُّكُمْ

TOOBOO ILALLAAHI TAWBATAN NASOOHAN A'SAA RABBUKUM

"Repent toward God with unswerving repentance! It may be that Your Lord

اَنْ يُكَفِّرَ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ

AN YUKAFFIRA A'NKUM SAYYI'AATIKUM WA YUDKHILAKUM

will acquit of your evil deeds and will admit you into

جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهَارُ

JANNAATIN TAJREE MIN TAHTIHAL ANHAAR

gardens beneath which rivers flow,

يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِي اللَّهُ النَّبِيَّ

YAWMA LAA YUKHZILLAAHUN NABIYY

upon the day when God will not degrade the Prophet

وَالَّذِينَ اٰمَنُوا مَعَهٗ، نُورُهُمْ يَسْعَى بَيْنَ اَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِاَيْمَانِهِمْ

WAL LADHEENA AAMANOO MA'AHOO NOORUHUM YAS'AA BAYNA AYDEEHIM WA BI-AYMAANIHIM

and those who have faith along with him, their light running before them and on their right hands,

يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا

YAQOOLOONA RABBANAA ATMIM LANAA NOORANAA WAGHFIR LANAA

and they say: 'Our Lord, complete for us our light, and forgive us!

اِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

INNAKA A'LAA KULLI SHAY'IN QADEER

Surely You are powerful over everything" (66:8).

فَمَا عُذْرُ مَنْ اَغْفَلَ دُخُولَ ذَلِكَ الْمَنْزِلِ

FAMAA U'DHRU MAN AGHFALA DUKHOOLA DHAALIKAL MANZIL

What is the excuse of him who remains heedless of entering that house

بَعْدَ فَتْحِ الْبَابِ وَاِقَامَةِ الدَّلِيلِ

BA'DA FAT-HIL BAABI WA IQAAMATID DALEEL

after the opening of the door and the setting up of the pointer?

وَاَنْتَ الَّذِي زِدْتَ فِي السَّوْمِ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ لِعِبَادِكَ

WA ANTAL LADHEE ZIDTA FIS SAWMI A'LAA NAFSIKA LI-I'BAADIK

It is You who have raised the price against Yourself to the advantage of Your servants,

تُرِيدُ رِبْحَهُمْ فِي مُتَاجَرَتِهِمْ لَكَ

TUREEDU RIBHAHUM FEE MUTAAJARATIHIM LAK

desiring their profit in their trade with You,

وَفَوْزَهُمْ بِالْوِفَادَةِ عَلَيْكَ، وَالزِّيَادَةِ مِنْكَ

WA FAWZAHUM BIL WIFAADATI A'LAYKA WAZ ZIYAADATI MINK

their triumph through reaching You, and their increase on account of You,

فَقُلْتَ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ

FAQULTA TABAARAKAS MUKA WA TA'AALAYT

for You have said (blessed is Your Name and high are You exalted),

مَنْ جَاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهٗ عَشْرُ اَمْثَالِهَا

MAN JAA'A BIL HASANATI FALAHOO A'SHRU AMTHAALIHAA

"Whoso brings a good deed shall have ten the like of it,

وَمَنْ جَاءَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَى اِلَّا مِثْلَهَا

WA MAN JAA'A BIS SAYYI'ATI FALAA YUJZAA ILLAA MITHLAHAA

and whoso brings an evil deed shall only be recompensed the like of it" (6:160).

وَقُلْتَ مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ اَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ

WA QULTA MATHALUL LADHEENA YUNFIQOONA AMWAALAHUM FEE SABEELILLAAHI KAMATHALI HABBAH

You have said, "The likeness of those who expend their wealth in the way of God is as the likeness of a grain of corn

اَنْبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِي كُلِّ سُنْبُلَةٍ مِائَةُ حَبَّةٍ

ANBATAT SAB'A SANAABILA FEE KULLI SUNBULATIN MI'ATU HABBAH

that sprouts seven ears, in every ear a hundred grains;

وَاللَّهُ يُضَاعِفُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ

WALLAAHU YUDAA'IFU LIMAN YASHAA'

so God multiplies unto whom He wills" (2:261).

وَقُلْتَ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضاً حَسَناً

WA QULTA MAN DHAL LADHEE YUQRIDULLAAHA QARDAN HASANAA

You have said, "Who is he that will lend to God a good loan,

فَيُضَاعِفَهٗ لَهٗ اَضْعَافاً كَثِيرَةً

FAYUDAA'IFAHOO LAHOO AD'AAFAN KATHEERAH

and He will multiply it for him manifold" (2:245)?

وَمَا اَنْزَلْتَ مِنْ نَظَائِرِهِنَّ فِي الْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ تَضَاعِيفِ الْحَسَنَاتِ

WA MAA ANZALTA MIN NAZAA'IRIHINNA FIL QUR'AANI MIN TADAA'EEFIL HASANAAT

And You have sent down in the Qur'an similar verses on the multiplying of good deeds.

وَاَنْتَ الَّذِي دَلَلْتَهُمْ بِقَوْلِكَ مِنْ غَيْبِكَ وَتَرْغِيبِكَ

WA ANTAL LADHEE DALALTAHUM BIQAWLIKA MIN GHAYBIKA WA TARGHEEBIK

It is You who have pointed them through Your speech from Your Unseen and Your encouragement

الَّذِي فِيهِ حَظُّهُمْ عَلَى مَا لَوْ سَتَرْتَهٗ عَنْهُمْ

ALLADHEE FEEHI HAZZUHUM A'LAA MAA LAW SATARTAHOO A'NHUM

in which lies their good fortune toward that which - had You covered it from them

لَمْ تُدْرِكْهُ اَبْصَارُهُمْ، وَلَمْ تَعِهٖ اَسْمَاعُهُمْ

LAM TUDRIK-HU ABSAARUHUM WA LAM TA'IHEE ASMAA'UHUM

their eyes would not have perceived, their ears would not have heard,

وَلَمْ تَلْحَقْهُ اَوْهَامُهُمْ

WA LAM TALHAQHU AWHAAMUHUM

and their imaginations would not have grasped,

فَقُلْتَ فَاذْكُرُونِي اَذْكُرْكُمْ، وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ

FAQULTA FADHKUROONEE ADHKURKUM WASHKUROO LEE WA LAA TAKFUROON

for You have said, "Remember Me and I will remember you be thankful to Me, and be you not thankless towards Me" (2:152)!

وَقُلْتَ لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لَاَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

WA QULTA LA-IN SHAKARTUM LA-AZEEDANNAKUM

You have said, "If you are thankful, surely I will increase you,

وَلَئِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ اِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ

WA LA-IN KAFARTUM INNA A'DHAABEE LASHADEED

but if you are thankless, My chastisement is surely terrible" (14:7);

وَقُلْتَ ادْعُونِي اَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ

WA QULTAD'OONEE ASTAJIB LAKUM

And You have said, "Supplicate Me and I will respond to you,

اِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي

INNAL LADHEENA YASTAKBIROONA A'N I'BAADATEE

surely those who wax too proud to worship Me

سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ

SAYADKHULOONA JAHANNAMA DAAKHIREEN

shall enter Gehenna utterly abject" (40:60).

فَسَمَّيْتَ دُعَاءَكَ عِبَادَةً، وَتَرْكَهُ اسْتِكْبَاراً

FASAMMAYTA DU'AA'AKA I'BAADATAN WA TARKAHUS TIKBAARAA

Hence You have named supplicating You 'worship' and refraining from it 'waxing proud',

وَتَوَعَّدْتَ عَلَى تَرْكِهٖ دُخُولَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ

WA TAWA''ADTA A'LAA TARKIHEE DUKHOOLA JAHANNAMA DAAKHIREEN

and You have threatened that the refraining from it would yield entrance into Gehenna in utter abjection.

فَذَكَرُوكَ بِمَنِّكَ، وَشَكَرُوكَ بِفَضْلِكَ

FADHAKAROOKA BIMANNIKA WA SHAKAROOKA BIFADLIK

So they remember You for Your kindness, they thank You for Your bounty,

وَدَعَوْكَ بِاَمْرِكَ

WA DA'AWKA BI-AMRIK

they supplicate You by Your command,

وَتَصَدَّقُوا لَكَ طَلَباً لِمَزِيدِكَ

WA TASADDAQOO LAKA TALABAN LIMAZEEDIK

and they donate for You in order to seek Your increase;

وَفِيهَا كَانَتْ نَجَاتُهُمْ مِنْ غَضَبِكَ

WA FEEHAA KAANAT NAJAATUHUM MIN GHADABIK

in all this lies their deliverance from Your wrath

وَفَوْزُهُمْ بِرِضَاكَ

WA FAWZUHUM BIRIDAAK

and their triumph through Your good pleasure.

وَلَوْ دَلَّ مَخْلُوقٌ مَخْلُوقاً مِنْ نَفْسِهٖ

WA LAW DALLA MAKHLOOQUN MAKHLOOQAN MIN NAFSIH

Were any creature himself to direct another creature

عَلَى مِثْلِ الَّذِي دَلَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عِبَادَكَ مِنْكَ

A'LAA MITHLIL LADHEE DALALTA A'LAYHI I'BAADAKA MINK

to the like of that to which You Yourself have directed Your servants,

كَانَ مَوْصُوفاً بِالْاِحْسَانِ

KAANA MAWSOOFAN BIL IHSAAN

he would be described by beneficence,

وَمَنْعُوتاً بِالِامْتِنَانِ، وَمَحْمُوداً بِكُلِّ لِسَانٍ

WA MAN'OOTAN BIL IMTINAANI WA MAHMOODAN BIKULLI LISAAN

qualified by kindness, and praised by every tongue.

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مَا وُجِدَ فِي حَمْدِكَ مَذْهَبٌ

FALAKAL HAMDU MAA WUJIDA FEE HAMDIKA MADH-HAB

So to You belongs praise as long as there is found a way to praise You

وَمَا بَقِيَ لِلْحَمْدِ لَفْظٌ تُحْمَدُ بِهٖ، وَمَعْنًى يَنْصَرِفُ اِلَيْهِ

WA MAA BAQIYA LIL HAMDI LAFZUN TUHMADU BIHEE WA MA'NAN YANSARIFU ILAYH

and as long as there remains for praising words by which You may be praised and meanings which may be spent in praise!

يَا مَنْ تَحَمَّدَ اِلَى عِبَادِهٖ بِالْاِحْسَانِ وَالْفَضْلِ

YAA MAN TAHAMMADA ILAA I'BAADIHEE BIL IHSAANI WAL FADL

O He who shows Himself praiseworthy to His servants through beneficence and bounty,

وَغَمَرَهُمْ بِالْمَنِّ وَالطَّوْلِ

WA GHAMARAHUM BIL MANNI WAT TAWL

flooding them with kindness and graciousness!

مَا اَفْشَى فِينَا نِعْمَتَكَ، وَاَسْبَغَ عَلَيْنَا مِنَّتَكَ

MAA AFSHAA FEENAA NI'MATAKA WA ASBAGHA A'LAYNAA MINNATAK

How much Your favour has been spread about among us, Your kindness lavished upon us,

وَاَخَصَّنَا بِبِرِّكَ

WA AKHASSANAA BIBIRRIK

and Your goodness singled out for us!

هَدَيْتَنَا لِدِينِكَ الَّذِي اصْطَفَيْتَ

HADAYTANAA LIDEENIKAL LADHIS TAFAYT

You have guided us to Your religion which You have chosen,

وَمِلَّتِكَ الَّتِي ارْتَضَيْتَ

WA MILLATIKAL LATIR TADAYT

Your creed with which You are pleased,

وَسَبِيلِكَ الَّذِي سَهَّلْتَ

WA SABEELIKAL LADHEE SAHHALT

and Your path which You have made smooth,

وَبَصَّرْتَنَا الزُّلْفَةَ لَدَيْكَ، وَالْوُصُولَ اِلَى كَرَامَتِكَ

WA BASSARTANAZ ZULFATA LADAYKA WAL WUSOOLA ILAA KARAAMATIK

and You have shown us proximity to You and arrival at Your generosity!

اللَّهُمَّ وَاَنْتَ جَعَلْتَ مِنْ صَفَايَا تِلْكَ الْوَظَائِفِ

ALLAAHUMMA WA ANTA JA'ALTA MIN SAFAAYAA TILKAL WAZAA'IF

O God, You have appointed among the choicest of those duties

وَخَصَائِصِ تِلْكَ الْفُرُوضِ

WA KHASAA'ISI TILKAL FUROOD

and the most special of those obligations

شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي اخْتَصَصْتَهٗ مِنْ سَائِرِ الشُّهُورِ

SHAHRA RAMADAANAL LADHIKH TASASTAHOO MIN SAA'IRISH SHUHOOR

the month of Ramadan, which You have singled out from other months,

وَتَخَيَّرْتَهٗ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْاَزْمِنَةِ وَالدُّهُورِ

WA TAKHAYYARTAHOO MIN JAMEE'IL AZMINATI WAD DUHOOR

chosen from among all periods and eras,

وَاٰثَرْتَهٗ عَلَى كُلِّ اَوْقَاتِ السَّنَةِ

WA AATHARTAHOO A'LAA KULLI AWQAATIS SANAH

and preferred over all times of the year

بِمَا اَنْزَلْتَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْقُرْاٰنِ وَالنُّورِ

BIMAA ANZALTA FEEHI MINAL QUR'AANI WAN NOOR

through the Qur'an and the Light which You sent down within it,

وَضَاعَفْتَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْاِيمَانِ

WA DAA'AFTA FEEHI MINAL EEMAAN

the faith which You multiplied by means of it,

وَفَرَضْتَ فِيهِ مِنَ الصِّيَامِ

WA FARADTA FEEHI MINAS SIYAAM

the fasting which You obligated therein,

وَرَغَّبْتَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْقِيَامِ

WA RAGHGHABTA FEEHI MINAL QIYAAM

the standing in prayer which You encouraged at its time,

وَاَجْلَلْتَ فِيهِ مِنْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

WA AJLALTA FEEHI MIN LAYLATIL QADR

and the Night of Decree which You magnified therein,

الَّتِي هِيَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ اَلْفِ شَهْرٍ

ALLATEE HIYA KHAYRUN MIN ALFI SHAHR

the night which is "better than a thousand months" (97:3).

ثُمَّ اٰثَرْتَنَا بِهٖ عَلَى سَائِرِ الْاُمَمِ

THUMMA AATHARTANAA BIHEE A'LAA SAA'IRIL UMAM

Through it You have preferred us over the other communities

وَاصْطَفَيْتَنَا بِفَضْلِهٖ دُونَ اَهْلِ الْمِلَلِ

WASTAFAYTANAA BIFADLIHEE DOONA AHLIL MILAL

and through its excellence You have chosen us to the exclusion of the people of the creeds.

فَصُمْنَا بِاَمْرِكَ نَهَارَهٗ

FASUMNAA BI-AMRIKA NAHAARAH

We fasted by Your command in its daylight,

وَقُمْنَا بِعَوْنِكَ لَيْلَهٗ

WA QUMNAA BI-A'WNIKA LAYLAH

we stood in prayer with Your help in its night,

مُتَعَرِّضِينَ بِصِيَامِهٖ وَقِيَامِهٖ لِمَا عَرَّضْتَنَا لَهٗ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ

MUTA'ARRIDEENA BISIYAAMIHEE WA QIYAAMIHEE LIMAA A'RRADTANAA LAHOO MIN RAHMATIK

presenting ourselves by its fasting and its standing to the mercy which You have held up before us,

وَتَسَبَّبْنَا اِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَثُوبَتِكَ

WA TASABBABNAA ILAYHI MIN MATHOOBATIK

and we found through it the means to Your reward.

وَاَنْتَ الْمَلِيءُ بِمَا رُغِبَ فِيهِ اِلَيْكَ

WA ANTAL MALEE'U BIMAA RUGHIBA FEEHI ILAYK

And You are full of what is sought from You,

الْجَوَادُ بِمَا سُئِلْتَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

AL-JAWAADU BIMAA SU'ILTA MIN FADLIK

munificent with what is asked of Your bounty,

الْقَرِيبُ اِلَى مَنْ حَاوَلَ قُرْبَكَ

AL-QAREEBU ILAA MAN HAAWALA QURBAK

and near to him who strives for Your nearness.

وَقَدْ اَقَامَ فِينَا هَذَا الشَّهْرُ مُقَامَ حَمْدٍ

WA QAD AQAAMA FEENAA HAADHASH SHAHRU MUQAAMA HAMD

This month stood among us in a standing place of praise,

وَصَحِبَنَا صُحْبَةَ مَبْرُورٍ

WA SAHIBANAA SUHBATA MABROOR

accompanied us with the companionship of one approved,

وَاَرْبَحَنَا اَفْضَلَ اَرْبَاحِ الْعَالَمِينَ

WA ARBAHANAA AFDALA ARBAAHIL A'ALAMEEN

and profited us with the most excellent profit of the world's creatures.

ثُمَّ قَدْ فَارَقَنَا عِنْدَ تَمَامِ وَقْتِهٖ، وَانْقِطَاعِ مُدَّتِهٖ، وَوَفَاءِ عَدَدِهٖ

THUMMA QAD FAARAQANAA I'NDA TAMAAMI WAQTIHEE WANQITAA'I MUDDATIHEE WA WAFAA'I A'DADIH

Then it parted from us at the completion of its time, the end of its term, and the fulfilment of its number.

فَنَحْنُ مُوَدِّعُوهُ وِدَاعَ مَنْ عَزَّ فِرَاقُهٗ عَلَيْنَا

FANAHNU MUWADDI'OOHU WIDAA'A MAN A'ZZA FIRAAQUHOO A'LAYNAA

So we bid farewell to it with the farewell of one whose parting pains us,

وَغَمَّنَا وَاَوْحَشَنَا انْصِرَافُهٗ عَنَّا

WA GHAMMANAA WA AWHASHANAN SIRAAFUHOO A'NNAA

whose leaving fills us with gloom and loneliness,

وَلَزِمَنَا لَهُ الذِّمَامُ الْمَحْفُوظُ

WA LAZIMANAA LAHUDH DHIMAAMUL MAHFOOZ

and to whom we have come to owe a safeguarded claim,

وَالْحُرْمَةُ الْمَرْعِيَّةُ، وَالْحَقُّ الْمَقْضِيُّ

WAL HURMATUL MAR'IYYATU WAL HAQQUL MAQDIYY

an observed inviolability, and a discharged right.

فَنَحْنُ قَائِلُونَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ

FANAHNU QAA'ILOONAS SALAAMU A'LAYK

We say: Peace be upon You,

يَا شَهْرَ اللَّهِ الْاَكْبَرَ، وَيَا عِيدَ اَوْلِيَائِهِ

YAA SHAHRALLAAHIL AKBARA WA YAA I'EEDA AWLIYAA'IH

O greatest month of God! O festival of His friends!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَكْرَمَ مَصْحُوبٍ مِنَ الْاَوْقَاتِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA YAA AKRAMA MAS-HOOBIN MINAL AWQAAT

Peace be upon You, O most noble of accompanying times!

وَيَا خَيْرَ شَهْرٍ فِي الْاَيَّامِ وَالسَّاعَاتِ

WA YAA KHAYRA SHAHRIN FIL AYYAAMI WAS SAA'AAT

O best of months in days and hours!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ شَهْرٍ قَرُبَتْ فِيهِ الْاٰمَالُ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN SHAHRIN QARUBAT FEEHIL AAMAAL

Peace be upon You, month in which expectations come near

وَنُشِرَتْ فِيهِ الْاَعْمَالُ

WA NUSHIRAT FEEHIL A'MAAL

and good works are scattered about!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَرِينٍ جَلَّ قَدْرُهٗ مَوْجُوداً

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN QAREENIN JALLA QADRUHOO MAWJOODAA

Peace be upon You, comrade who is great in worth when found

وَاَفْجَعَ فَقْدُهٗ مَفْقُوداً، وَمَرْجُوٍّ اٰلَمَ فِرَاقُهُ

WA AFJA'A FAQDUHOO MAFQOODAN WA MARJUWWIN AALAMA FIRAAQUH

and who torments through absence when lost, anticipated friend whose parting gives pain!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ اَلِيفٍ اٰنَسَ مُقْبِلًا فَسَرَّ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN ALEEFIN AANASA MUQBILAN FASARR

Peace be upon You, familiar who brought comfort in coming, thus making happy,

وَاَوْحَشَ مُنْقَضِياً فَمَضَّ

WA AWHASHA MUNQADIYAN FAMADD

who left loneliness in going, thus giving anguish!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ مُجَاوِرٍ رَقَّتْ فِيهِ الْقُلُوبُ، وَقَلَّتْ فِيهِ الذُّنُوبُ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN MUJAAWIRIN RAQQAT FEEHIL QULOOBU WA QALLAT FEEHIDH DHUNOOB

Peace be upon You, neighbour in whom hearts became tender and sins became few!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ نَاصِرٍ اَعَانَ عَلَى الشَّيْطَانِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN NAASIRIN A'AANA A'LASH SHAYTAAN

Peace be upon You, helper who aided against Satan,

وَصَاحِبٍ سَهَّلَ سُبُلَ الْاِحْسَانِ

WA SAAHIBIN SAHHALA SUBULAL IHSAAN

companion who made easy the paths of good-doing!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مَا اَكْثَرَ عُتَقَاءَ اللَّهِ فِيكَ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MAA AKTHARA U'TAQAA'ALLAAHI FEEK

Peace be upon You - How many became freedmen of God within You!

وَمَا اَسْعَدَ مَنْ رَعَى حُرْمَتَكَ بِكَ

WA MAA AS'ADA MAN RA'AA HURMATAKA BIK

How happy those who observed the respect due to You!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مَا كَانَ اَمْحَاكَ لِلذُّنُوبِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MAA KAANA AMHAAKA LIDH DHUNOOB

Peace be upon You - How many the sins You erased!

وَاَسْتَرَكَ لِاَنْوَاعِ الْعُيُوبِ

WA ASTARAKA LI-ANWAA'IL U'YOOB

How many the kinds of faults You covered over!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مَا كَانَ اَطْوَلَكَ عَلَى الْمُجْرِمِينَ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MAA KAANA ATWALAKA A'LAL MUJRIMEEN

Peace be upon You - How drawn out were You for the sinners!

وَاَهْيَبَكَ فِي صُدُورِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

WA AHYABAKA FEE SUDOORIL MU'MINEEN

How awesome were You in the hearts of the faithful!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ شَهْرٍ لَا تُنَافِسُهُ الْاَيَّامُ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN SHAHRIN LAA TUNAAFISUHUL AYYAAM

Peace be upon You, month with which no days compete!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ شَهْرٍ هُوَ مِنْ كُلِّ اَمْرٍ سَلَامٌ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN SHAHRIN HUWA MIN KULLI AMRIN SALAAM

Peace be upon You, month which is peace in all affairs!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ غَيْرَ كَرِيهِ الْمُصَاحَبَةِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA GHAYRA KAREEHIL MUSAAHABAH

Peace be upon You, You whose companionship is not disliked,

وَلَا ذَمِيمِ الْمُلَابَسَةِ

WA LAA DHAMEEMIL MULAABASAH

You whose friendly mixing is not blamed!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ كَمَا وَفَدْتَ عَلَيْنَا بِالْبَرَكَاتِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA KAMAA WAFADTA A'LAYNAA BIL BARAKAAT

Peace be upon You, just as You have entered upon us with blessings

وَغَسَلْتَ عَنَّا دَنَسَ الْخَطِيئَاتِ

WA GHASALTA A'NNAA DANASAL KHATEE'AAT

and cleansed us of the defilement of offenses!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ غَيْرَ مُوَدَّعٍ بَرَماً

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA GHAYRA MUWADDA'IN BARAMAA

Peace be upon You - You are not bid farewell in annoyance

وَلَا مَتْرُوكٍ صِيَامُهٗ سَاَماً

WA LAA MATROOKIN SIYAAMUHOO SA'AMAA

nor is Your fasting left in weariness!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ مَطْلُوبٍ قَبْلَ وَقْتِهٖ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MIN MATLOOBIN QABLA WAQTIH

Peace be upon You, object of seeking before Your time,

وَمَحْزُونٍ عَلَيْهِ قَبْلَ فَوْتِهِ

WA MAHZOONIN A'LAYHI QABLA FAWTIH

object of sorrow before Your passing!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ كَمْ مِنْ سُوءٍ صُرِفَ بِكَ عَنَّا

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA KAM MIN SOO'IN SURIFA BIKA A'NNAA

Peace be upon You - How much evil was turned away from us through You!

وَكَمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ اُفِيضَ بِكَ عَلَيْنَا

WA KAM MIN KHAYRIN UFEEDA BIKA A'LAYNAA

How much good flowed upon us because of You!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA WA A'LAA LAYLATIL QADR

Peace be upon You and upon the Night of Decree

الَّتِي هِيَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ اَلْفِ شَهْرٍ

ALLATEE HIYA KHAYRUN MIN ALFI SHAHR

which is "better than a thousand months" (97:3)!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مَا كَانَ اَحْرَصَنَا بِالْاَمْسِ عَلَيْكَ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA MAA KAANA AHRASANAA BIL AMSI A'LAYK

Peace be upon You - How much we craved You yesterday!

وَاَشَدَّ شَوْقَنَا غَداً اِلَيْكَ

WA ASHADDA SHAWQANAA GHADAN ILAYK

How intensely we shall yearn for You tomorrow!

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى فَضْلِكَ الَّذِي حُرِمْنَاهُ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA WA A'LAA FADLIKAL LADHEE HURIMNAAH

Peace be upon You and upon Your bounty which has now been made unlawful to us

وَعَلَى مَاضٍ مِنْ بَرَكَاتِكَ سُلِبْنَاهُ

WA A'LAA MAADIN MIN BARAKAATIKA SULIBNAAH

and upon Your blessings gone by which have now been stripped away from us!

اللَّهُمَّ اِنَّا اَهْلُ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ الَّذِي شَرَّفْتَنَا بِهٖ

ALLAAHUMMA INNAA AHLU HAADHASH SHAHRIL LADHEE SHARRAFTANAA BIH

O God, we are the people of this month. Through it You have ennobled us

وَوَفَّقْتَنَا بِمَنِّكَ لَهٗ حِينَ جَهِلَ الْاَشْقِيَاءُ وَقْتَهٗ

WA WAFFAQTANAA BIMANNIKA LAHOO HEENA JAHILAL ASHQIYAA'U WAQTAH

and given us success because of Your kindness, while the wretched are ignorant of its time.

وَحُرِمُوا لِشَقَائِهِمْ فَضْلَهٗ

WA HURIMOO LISHAQAA'IHIM FADLAH

Made unlawful to them is its bounty because of their wretchedness.

اَنْتَ وَلِيُّ مَا اٰثَرْتَنَا بِهٖ مِنْ مَعْرِفَتِهٖ

ANTA WALIYYU MAA AATHARTANAA BIHEE MIN MA'RIFATIH

You are the patron of the knowledge of it by which You have preferred us,

وَهَدَيْتَنَا لَهٗ مِنْ سُنَّتِهٖ

WA HADAYTANAA LAHOO MIN SUNNATIH

and its prescribed practices to which You have guided us.

وَقَدْ تَوَلَّيْنَا بِتَوْفِيقِكَ صِيَامَهٗ وَقِيَامَهٗ عَلَى تَقْصِيرٍ

WA QAD TAWALLAYNAA BITAWFEEQIKA SIYAAMAHOO WA QIYAAMAHOO A'LAA TAQSEER

We have undertaken, through Your giving success, its fasting and its standing in prayer, but with shortcomings,

وَاَدَّيْنَا فِيهِ قَلِيلًا مِنْ كَثِيرٍ

WA ADDAYNAA FEEHI QALEELAN MIN KATHEER

and we have performed little of much.

اللَّهُمَّ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ اِقْرَاراً بِالْاِسَاءَةِ

ALLAAHUMMA FALAKAL HAMDU IQRAARAN BIL ISAA'AH

O God, so to You belongs praise, in admission of evil doing

وَاعْتِرَافاً بِالْاِضَاعَةِ، وَلَكَ مِنْ قُلُوبِنَا عَقْدُ النَّدَمِ

WA'TIRAAFAN BIL IDAA'ATI WA LAKA MIN QULOOBINAA A'QDUN NADAM

and confession of negligence, and to You belongs remorse firmly knitted in our hearts

وَمِنْ اَلْسِنَتِنَا صِدْقُ الِاعْتِذَارِ

WA MIN ALSINATINAA SIDQUL I'TIDHAAR

and seeking of pardon sincerely uttered by our tongues.

فَاْجُرْنَا عَلَى مَا اَصَابَنَا فِيهِ مِنَ التَّفْرِيطِ

FA'JURNAA A'LAA MAA ASAABANAA FEEHI MINAT TAFREET

Reward us, in spite of the neglect that befell us in this month,

اَجْراً نَسْتَدْرِكُ بِهِ الْفَضْلَ الْمَرْغُوبَ فِيهِ

AJRAN NASTADRIKU BIHIL FADLAL MARGHOOBA FEEH

with a reward through which we may reach the bounty desired from it

وَنَعْتَاضُ بِهٖ مِنْ اَنْوَاعِ الذُّخْرِ الْمَحْرُوصِ عَلَيْهِ

WA NA'TAADU BIHEE MIN ANWAA'IDH DHUKHRIL MAHROOSI A'LAYH

and win the varieties of its craved stores!

وَاَوْجِبْ لَنَا عُذْرَكَ عَلَى مَا قَصَّرْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ حَقِّكَ

WA AWJIB LANAA U'DHRAKA A'LAA MAA QASSARNAA FEEHI MIN HAQQIK

Make incumbent upon us Your pardon for our falling short of Your right in this month

وَابْلُغْ بِاَعْمَارِنَا مَا بَيْنَ اَيْدِينَا مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ الْمُقْبِلِ

WABLUGH BI-A'MAARINAA MAA BAYNA AYDEENAA MIN SHAHRI RAMADAANAL MUQBIL

and make our lives which lie before us reach the coming month of Ramadan!

فَاِذَا بَلَّغْتَنَاهُ فَاَعِنَّا عَلَى تَنَاوُلِ

FA-IDHAA BALLAGHTANAAHU FA-A'INNAA A'LAA TANAAWUL

Once You have made us reach it, help us perform

مَا اَنْتَ اَهْلُهٗ مِنَ الْعِبَادَةِ

MAA ANTA AHLUHOO MINAL I'BAADAH

the worship of which You are worthy,

وَاَدِّنَا اِلَى الْقِيَامِ بِمَا يَسْتَحِقُّهٗ مِنَ الطَّاعَةِ

WA ADDINAA ILAL QIYAAMI BIMAA YASTAHIQQUHOO MINAT TAA'AH

cause us to undertake the obedience which You deserve,

وَاَجْرِ لَنَا مِنْ صَالِحِ الْعَمَلِ

WA AJRI LANAA MIN SAALIHIL A'MAL

and grant us righteous works

مَا يَكُونُ دَرَكاً لِحَقِّكَ فِي الشَّهْرَيْنِ مِنْ شُهُورِ الدَّهْرِ

MAA YAKOONU DARAKAN LIHAQQIKA FISH SHAHRAYNI MIN SHUHOORID DAHR

that we may fulfil Your right in these two months of the months of time.

اللَّهُمَّ وَمَا اَلْمَمْنَا بِهٖ فِي شَهْرِنَا هَذَا مِنْ لَمَمٍ اَوْ اِثْمٍ

ALLAAHUMMA WA MAA ALMAMNAA BIHEE FEE SHAHRINAA HAADHAA MIN LAMAMIN AW ITHM

O God, as for the small and large sins which we have committed in this our month,

اَوْ وَاقَعْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ ذَنْبٍ، وَاكْتَسَبْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ خَطِيئَةٍ

AW WAAQA'NAA FEEHI MIN DHANBIN WAKTASABNAA FEEHI MIN KHATEE'AH

the misdeeds into which we have fallen, and the offenses which we have earned

عَلَى تَعَمُّدٍ مِنَّا، اَوْ عَلَى نِسْيَانٍ ظَلَمْنَا فِيهِ اَنْفُسَنَا، اَوِ انْتَهَكْنَا بِهٖ حُرْمَةً مِنْ غَيْرِنَا

A'LAA TA'AMMUDIN MINNAA AW A'LAA NISYAANIN ZALAMNAA FEEHI ANFUSANAA AWIN TAHAKNAA BIHEE HURMATAN MIN GHAYRINAA

purposefully or in forgetfulness, wronging ourselves thereby or violating the respect due to others,

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِهِ، وَاسْتُرْنَا بِسِتْرِكَ

FASALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALIHEE WASTURNAA BISITRIK

bless Muhammad and his Household, cover us over with Your covering,

وَاعْفُ عَنَّا بِعَفْوِكَ

WA'FU A'NNAA BI-A'FWIK

pardon us through Your pardoning,

وَلَا تَنْصِبْنَا فِيهِ لِاَعْيُنِ الشَّامِتِينَ

WA LAA TANSIBNAA FEEHI LI-A'YUNISH SHAAMITEEN

place us not before the eyes of the gloaters because of that,

وَلَا تَبْسُطْ عَلَيْنَا فِيهِ اَلْسُنَ الطَّاعِنِينَ

WA LAA TABSUT A'LAYNAA FEEHI ALSUNAT TAA'INEEN

stretch not toward us the tongues of the defamers,

وَاسْتَعْمِلْنَا بِمَا يَكُونُ حِطَّةً وَكَفَّارَةً

WASTA'MILNAA BIMAA YAKOONU HITTATAN WA KAFFAARAH

and employ us in that which will alleviate and expiate

لِمَا اَنْكَرْتَ مِنَّا فِيهِ بِرَاْفَتِكَ الَّتِي لَا تَنْفَدُ

LIMAA ANKARTA MINNAA FEEHI BIRA'FATIKAL LATEE LAA TANFAD

whatever You disapprove from us within it through Your clemency which does not run out,

وَفَضْلِكَ الَّذِي لَا يَنْقُصُ

WA FADLIKAL LADHEE LAA YANQUS

and Your bounty which does not diminish!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِهِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALIH

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَاجْبُرْ مُصِيبَتَنَا بِشَهْرِنَا

WAJBUR MUSEEBATANAA BISHAHRINAA

redress our being afflicted by our month,

وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي يَوْمِ عِيدِنَا وَفِطْرِنَا

WA BAARIK LANAA FEE YAWMI I'EEDINAA WA FITRINAA

bless us in this day of our festival and our fast-breaking,

وَاجْعَلْهُ مِنْ خَيْرِ يَوْمٍ مَرَّ عَلَيْنَا اَجْلَبِهٖ لِعَفْوٍ، وَاَمْحَاهُ لِذَنْبٍ

WAJ'ALHU MIN KHAYRI YAWMIN MARRA A'LAYNAA AJLABIHEE LI-A'FWIN WA AMHAAHU LIDHANB

make it one of the best of days that have passed over us, the greatest in attracting Your pardon, and the most effacing toward sins,

وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا مَا خَفِيَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِنَا وَمَا عَلَنَ

WAGHFIR LANAA MAA KHAFIYA MIN DHUNOOBINAA WA MAA A'LAN

and forgive us our sins, both the concealed and the public!

اللَّهُمَّ اسْلَخْنَا بِانْسِلَاخِ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ مِنْ خَطَايَانَا

ALLAAHUMMAS LAKHNAA BINSILAAKHI HAADHASH SHAHRI MIN KHATAAYAANAA

O God, with the passing of this month make us pass forth from our offenses,

وَاَخْرِجْنَا بِخُرُوجِهٖ مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِنَا

WA AKHRIJNAA BIKHUROOJIHEE MIN SAYYI'AATINAA

with its departure make us depart from our evil deeds,

وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ اَسْعَدِ اَهْلِهٖ بِهٖ

WAJ'ALNAA MIN AS'ADI AHLIHEE BIH

and appoint us thereby among its most felicitous people,

وَاَجْزَلِهِمْ قِسْماً فِيهِ، وَاَوْفَرِهِمْ حَظّاً مِنْهُ

WA AJZALIHIM QISMAN FEEHI WA AWFARIHIM HAZZAN MINH

the most plentiful of them in portion, and the fullest of them in share!

اللَّهُمَّ وَمَنْ رَعَى هَذَا الشَّهْرَ حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهٖ

ALLAAHUMMA WA MAN RA'AA HAADHASH SHAHRA HAQQA RI'AAYATIH

O God, when any person observes this month as it should be observed,

وَحَفِظَ حُرْمَتَهٗ حَقَّ حِفْظِهَا، وَقَامَ بِحُدُودِهٖ حَقَّ قِيَامِهَا

WA HAFIZA HURMATAHOO HAQQA HIFZIHAA WA QAAMA BIHUDOODIHEE HAQQA QIYAAMIHAA

safeguards its inviolability as it should be safeguarded, attends to its bounds as they should be attended to,

وَاتَّقَى ذُنُوبَهٗ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهَا، اَوْ تَقَرَّبَ اِلَيْكَ بِقُرْبَةٍ

WATTAQAA DHUNOOBAHOO HAQQA TUQAATIHAA AW TAQARRABA ILAYKA BIQURBAH

fears its misdeeds as they should be feared, or seeks nearness to You with any act of nearness-seeking

اَوْجَبَتْ رِضَاكَ لَهٗ، وَعَطَفَتْ رَحْمَتَكَ عَلَيْهِ

AWJABAT RIDAAKA LAHOO WA A'TAFAT RAHMATAKA A'LAYH

which makes incumbent upon him Your good pleasure and bends toward him Your mercy,

فَهَبْ لَنَا مِثْلَهٗ مِنْ وُجْدِكَ

FAHAB LANAA MITHLAHOO MIN WUJDIK

give to us the like [of that] from Your wealth

وَاَعْطِنَا اَضْعَافَهٗ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

WA A'TINAA AD'AAFAHOO MIN FADLIK

and bestow it upon us in multiples through Your bounty,

فَاِنَّ فَضْلَكَ لَا يَغِيضُ، وَاِنَّ خَزَائِنَكَ لَا تَنْقُصُ بَلْ تَفِيضُ

FA-INNA FADLAKA LAA YAGHEEDU WA INNA KHAZAA'INAKA LAA TANQUSU BAL TAFEED

for Your bounty does not diminish, Your treasuries do not decrease but overflow,

وَاِنَّ مَعَادِنَ اِحْسَانِكَ لَا تَفْنَى

WA INNA MA'AADINA IHSAANIKA LAA TAFNAA

the mines of Your beneficence are not exhausted,

وَاِنَّ عَطَاءَكَ لَلْعَطَاءُ الْمُهَنَّا

WA INNA A'TAA'AKA LAL A'TAA'UL MUHANNAA

and Your bestowal is the bestowal full of delight!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِهِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALIH

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاكْتُبْ لَنَا مِثْلَ اُجُورِ مَنْ صَامَهٗ

WAKTUB LANAA MITHLA UJOORI MAN SAAMAH

and write for us the like of the wages of him who fasted in it

اَوْ تَعَبَّدَ لَكَ فِيهِ اِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

AW TA'ABBADA LAKA FEEHI ILAA YAWMIL QIYAAMAH

or worshipped You within it until the Day of Resurrection!

اللَّهُمَّ اِنَّا نَتُوبُ اِلَيْكَ فِي يَوْمِ فِطْرِنَا

ALLAAHUMMA INNAA NATOOBU ILAYKA FEE YAWMI FITRINAA

O God, we repent to You in our day of fast-breaking,

الَّذِي جَعَلْتَهٗ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عِيداً وَسُرُوراً

ALLADHEE JA'ALTAHOO LIL MU'MINEENA I'EEDAN WA SUROORAA

which You have appointed for the faithful a festival and a joy

وَلِاَهْلِ مِلَّتِكَ مَجْمَعاً وَمُحْتَشَداً مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ اَذْنَبْنَاهُ

WA LI-AHLI MILLATIKA MAJMA'AN WA MUHTASHADAN MIN KULLI DHANBIN ADHNABNAAH

and for the people of Your creed a time of assembly and gathering, from every misdeed we did,

اَوْ سُوءٍ اَسْلَفْنَاهُ، اَوْ خَاطِرِ شَرٍّ اَضْمَرْنَاهُ

AW SOO'IN ASLAFNAAHU AW KHAATIRI SHARRIN ADMARNAAH

ill work we sent ahead, or evil thought we secretly conceived,

تَوْبَةَ مَنْ لَا يَنْطَوِي عَلَى رُجُوعٍ اِلَى ذَنْبٍ

TAWBATA MAN LAA YANTAWEE A'LAA RUJOO'IN ILAA DHANB

the repentance of one who does not harbour a return to sin

وَلَا يَعُودُ بَعْدَهَا فِي خَطِيئَةٍ

WA LAA YA'OODU BA'DAHAA FEE KHATEE'AH

and who afterwards will not go back to offense,

تَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً خَلَصَتْ مِنَ الشَّكِّ وَالِارْتِيَابِ

TAWBATAN NASOOHAN KHALASAT MINASH SHAKKI WAL IRTIYAAB

an unswerving repentance rid of doubt and wavering.

فَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنَّا، وَارْضَ عَنَّا، وَثَبِّتْنَا عَلَيْهَا

FATAQABBALHAA MINNAA WARDA A'NNAA WA THABBITNAA A'LAYHAA

So accept it from us, be pleased with us, and fix us within it!

اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنَا خَوْفَ عِقَابِ الْوَعِيدِ

ALLAAHUMMAR ZUQNAA KHAWFA I'QAABIL WA'EED

God, provide us with fear of the threatened punishment

وَشَوْقَ ثَوَابِ الْمَوْعُودِ حَتَّى نَجِدَ لَذَّةَ مَا نَدْعُوكَ بِهٖ

WA SHAWQA THAWAABIL MAW'OODI HATTAA NAJIDA LADHDHATA MAA NAD'OOKA BIH

and yearning for the promised reward, so that we may find the pleasure of that for which we supplicate You

وَكَاْبَةَ مَا نَسْتَجِيرُكَ مِنْهُ

WA KA'BATA MAA NASTAJEERUKA MINH

and the sorrow of that from which we seek sanctuary in You!

وَاجْعَلْنَا عِنْدَكَ مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ الَّذِينَ اَوْجَبْتَ لَهُمْ مَحَبَّتَكَ

WAJ'ALNAA I'NDAKA MINAT TAWWAABEENAL LADHEENA AWJABTA LAHUM MAHABBATAK

And place us with You among the repenters, those upon whom You have made Your love obligatory

وَقَبِلْتَ مِنْهُمْ مُرَاجَعَةَ طَاعَتِكَ، يَا اَعْدَلَ الْعَادِلِينَ

WA QABILTA MINHUM MURAAJA'ATA TAA'ATIKA YAA A'DALAL A'ADILEEN

and from whom You have accepted the return to obeying You! O Most Just of the just!

اللَّهُمَّ تَجَاوَزْ عَنْ اٰبَائِنَا وَاُمَّهَاتِنَا وَاَهْلِ دِينِنَا جَمِيعاً

ALLAAHUMMA TAJAAWAZ A'N AABAA'INAA WA UMMAHAATINAA WA AHLI DEENINAA JAMEE'AA

O God, show forbearance toward our fathers and our mothers and all the people of our religion,

مَنْ سَلَفَ مِنْهُمْ وَمَنْ غَبَرَ اِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

MAN SALAFA MINHUM WA MAN GHABARA ILAA YAWMIL QIYAAMAH

those who have gone and those who will pass by, until the Day of Resurrection!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ نَبِيِّنَا وَاٰلِهِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN NABIYYINAA WA AALIH

O God, bless our prophet Muhammad and his Household,

كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى مَلَائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ

KAMAA SALLAYTA A'LAA MALAA'IKATIKAL MUQARRABEEN

as You have blessed Your angels brought nigh,

وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهِ

WA SALLI A'LAYHI WA AALIH

bless him and his Household,

كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى اَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

KAMAA SALLAYTA A'LAA ANBIYAA'IKAL MURSALEEN

as You have blessed Your prophets sent out,

وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهِ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

WA SALLI A'LAYHI WA AALIHEE KAMAA SALLAYTA A'LAA I'BAADIKAS SAALIHEEN

bless him and his Household, as You have blessed Your righteous servants

وَاَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ

WA AFDALA MIN DHAALIKA YAA RABBAL A'ALAMEEN

and better than that, O Lord of the worlds!

صَلَاةً تَبْلُغُنَا بَرَكَتُهَا، وَيَنَالُنَا نَفْعُهَا

SALAATAN TABLUGHUNAA BARAKATUHAA WA YANAALUNAA NAF'UHAA

a blessing whose benediction will reach us, whose benefit will attain to us,

وَيُسْتَجَابُ لَهَا دُعَاؤُنَا

WA YUSTAJAABU LAHAA DU'AA'UNAA

and through which our supplication may be granted!

اِنَّكَ اَكْرَمُ مَنْ رُغِبَ اِلَيْهِ

INNAKA AKRAMU MAN RUGHIBA ILAYH

You are the most generous of those who are beseeched,

وَاَكْفَى مَنْ تُوُكِّلَ عَلَيْهِ

WA AKFAA MAN TUWUKKILA A'LAYH

the most sufficient of those in whom confidence is had,

وَاَعْطَى مَنْ سُئِلَ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ

WA A'TAA MAN SU'ILA MIN FADLIH

the most bestowing of those from whom bounty is asked,

وَاَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

WA ANTA A'LAA KULLI SHAY'IN QADEER

You are powerful over everything!
