Text and Translation

Post-Ziyarah Prayer & Dua

Salat -Dua after Ziarat Offer a six unit prayer

In the first two units, which are intended for visiting the tomb of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (‘a), you may recite [Surah al-Fatihah](A5) and [Surah al-Rahman](A59) (No. 55) at the first unit, and recite [Surah al-Fatihah](A5) and [Surah Yasin](A40) (No. 36) in the second.

you may then say the famous Tasbih al-Zahra' (sa), implore for Almighty Allah’s forgiveness (istighfar), pray Him to grant you your personal needs, and then say the following

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي صَلَّيْتُ هَاتَيْنِ ٱلرَّكْعَتَيْنِ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE SALLAYTO HAATAYNIR RAK-A’TAYNE

O Allah, I have offered these two units of prayer,

هَدِيَّةً مِنِّي إِلَىٰ سَيِّدِي وَمَوْلاَيَ

HADIYYATAM MINNEE ELAA SAYYEDEE WA MAWLAAYA

as present from me to my master and chief:

وَلِيِّكَ وَأَخِي رَسُولِكَ

WALIYYEKA WA AKHEE RASOOLEKA

Your intimate servant, the brother of Your Messenger,

أَمِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

AMEERIL MOAMENEENA

the Commander of the Faithful

وَسَيِّدِ ٱلْوَصِيّينَ

WA SAYYEDIL WASIYYEENA

and the chief of the Prophets’ successors;

عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ

A’LIYYIBNE ABEE TAALEBIN

namely, `Ali the son of Abu-Talib,

صَلَوَاتُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ

SALAWAATUL LAAHE A’LAYHE WA A’LAA AALEHI

may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his household.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA FASALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

So, O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَتَقَبَّلَهَا مِنِّي

WA TAQABBALAHAA MINNEE

accept that prayer from me,

وَٱجْزِنِي عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ جَزَاءَ ٱلْمُحْسِنينَ

WAJ ZENEE A’LAA ZAALEKA JAZAAA-AL MOHSENEENA

and confer upon me with the reward that You give to the good-doers.

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صَلَّيْتُ

ALLAAHUMMA LAKA SALLAYTO

O Allah, to You have I offered prayer,

وَلَكَ رَكَعْتُ

WA LAKA RAKA’TO

genuflected,

وَلَكَ سَجَدْتُ

WA LAKA SAJADTO

and prostrated myself;

وَحْدَكَ لاََ شَرِيكَ لَكَ

WAHDAKA LAA SHAREEKA LAKA

to You alone without associating anyone with You,

لأَنَّهُ لاََ تَكُونُ ٱلصَّلاَةُ

LE-ANNAHU LAA TAKOONUS SALAATO

because prayers,

وَٱلرُّكُوعُ وَٱلسُّجُودُ إِلاَّ لَكَ

WAR ROKOO-O’ WAS SOJOODO ILLAA LAKA

genuflections, and prostrations are submitted to none save You,

لأَنَّكَ أَنْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاََ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

LE-ANNAKA ANTAL LAAHO LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA

because You are Allah; there is no god save You.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah, (please do) bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي زِيَارَتِي

WA TAQABBAL MINNEE ZEYAARATEE

admit my visit,

وَأَعْطِنِي سُؤْلِي

WA A-A’TENEE SOALEE

and respond to my requests

بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

BE-MOHAMMADINW WA AALEHIT TAAHEREENA

in the name of Muhammad and his Household—the immaculate ones.

You may then provide the other four units as present to Prophet Adam(as) and Prophet Noah.(as)

You may then prostrate yourself for thanksgiving (sajdat al-shukr) and say the following words:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِلَيْكَ تَوَجَّهْتُ

ALLAAHUMMA ELAYKA TAWAJJAHTO

O Allah, to You do I direct my face,

وَبِكَ ٱعْتَصَمْتُ

WA BEKA’ TASAMTO

to You do I resort,

وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ

WA A’LAYKA TAWAKKALTO

and on You do I rely.

اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ ثِقَتِي وَرَجَائِي

ALLAAHUMMA ANTA SEQATEE WA RAJAAA-EE

O Allah, You are my trust and my hope;

فَٱكْفِنِي مَا أَهَمَّنِي وَمَا لاََ يُهِمُّنِي

FAKFENEE MAA AHAMMANEE WA MAA LAA YOHIMMONEE

so, (please do) save me from whatever concerns me, whatever does not concern me,

وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي

WA MAA ANTA A-A’LAMO BEHI MINNEE

and whatever You know more than I do.

عَزَّ جَارُكَ

A’ZZA JAAROKA

Certainly, protected is he who lies under Your protection,

وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ

WA JALLA SANAAA-OKA

glory be to Your praise,

وَلاَ إِلٰهَ غَيْرُكَ

WA LAA ELAAHA GHAYROKA

and there is no deity save You.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّد

SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

(Please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَقَرِّبْ فَرَجَهُمْ

WA QARRIB FARAJAHUM

and hasten their Relief.

You may then put your right cheek on the ground and say the following words:

إِرْحَمْ ذُلِّي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

IRHAM ZULLEE BAYNA YADAYKA

(Please do) have mercy on my humiliation before You,

وَتَضَرُّعِي إِلَيْكَ

WA TAZARRO-E’E ELAYKA

on my earnest imploring to You,

وَوَحْشَتِي مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ

WA WAHSHATEE MENAN NAASE

on my loneliness among people,

وَأُنْسِي بِكَ

WA UNSEE BEKA

and on my amiability with You.

يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ

YAA KAREEMO YAA KAREEMO YAA KAREEMO

O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!

You may then put your left cheek on the ground and say the following words:

لاََ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي حَقّاً حَقّاً

LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA RABBEE HAQQAN HAQQAN

There is no god save You, my Lord; truly, truly.

سَجَدْتُ لَكَ يَا رَبِّ تَعَبُّداً وَرِقّاً

SAJADTO LAKA YAA RABBE TA-A’BBODANW WA RIQQAN

O Lord, I prostrate myself before You as sign of my worshipfulness and servitude to You.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ عَمَلِي ضَعيفٌ فَضَاعِفْهُ لِي

ALLAAHUMMA INNA A’MALEE ZA-E’EFUN FAZAA-I’FHO LEE

O Allah, my deed is certainly feeble; so, (please do) grant it strength by increasing it many times,

يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ

YAA KAREEMO YAA KAREEMO YAA KAREEMO

O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!

You may then return to the state of ordinary prostration and repeat "shukran" one hundred times:

شُكْراً

SHUKRAN

Thanks.

Recite Dua After Ziarat - Allhumma La Budda

[Dua Alqama](E8)

You are also recommended to implore Almighty Allah for forgiveness as sincerely as possible, because the place you are in is the zone of forgiveness. You are recommended to beseech Almighty Allah for settling your needs as seriously as possible, because the place you are in is the zone of responding to the needs.

Further Dua

In his book of al-Mazar, Sayyid ibn Tawus says: Whenever you offer an obligatory or a supererogatory prayer during your presence in the holy shrine of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (‘a), you are recommended to say the following supplication:

اَللَّهُمَّ لاََ بُدَّ مِنْ أَمْرِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA LAA BUDDA MIN AMREKA

O Allah, Your determination is surely unavoidable,

وَلاَ بُدَّ مِنْ قَدَرِكَ

WA LAA BUDDA MIN QADAREKA

Your destiny is unavoidable,

وَلاَ بُدَّ مِنْ قَضَائِكَ

WA LAA BUDDA MIN QAZAAA-EKA

Your act is unavoidable,

وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِكَ

WA LAA HAWLA WA LAA QUWWATA ILLAA BEKA

and there is no power and no might except with You.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَمَا قَضَيْتَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ قَضَاءٍ

ALLAAHUMMA FAMAA QAZAYTA A’LAYNAA MIN QAZAAA-IN

So, O Allah, whatever act You decide on us

أَوْ قَدَّرْتَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ قَدَرٍ

AW QADDARTA A’LAYNAA MIN QADARIN

and whatever decree You make on us,

فَأَعْطِنَا مَعَهُ صَبْراً يَقْهَرُهُ وَيَدْمَغُهُ

FA-A-A’TENAA MA-A’HU SABRAN-Y YAQHAROHU WA YADMAGHOHU

(please do) grant us along with it patience that repels and fends it off

وَٱجْعَلْهُ لَنَا صَاعِداً فِي رِضْوَانِكَ

WAJ A’LHO LANAA SAA-E’DAN FEE RIZWAANEKA

and make it ascend for our good toward Your Pleasure

يُنْمي فِي حَسَنَاتِنَا وَتَفْضيلِنَا

YUNMEE FEE HASANAATENAA WA TAFZEELENAA

so that it shall grow up our rewards, favors,

وَسُؤْدَدِنَا وَشَرَفِنَا

WA SOADADENAA WA SHARAFENAA

tributes, honor,

وَمَجْدِنَا وَنَعْمَائِنَا

WA MAJDENAA WA NA’MAAA-ENAA

glory, boon,

وَكَرَامَتِنَا فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

WA KARAAMATENAA FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

and dignity in this world as well as the world to come.

وَلاَ تَنْقُصْ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِنَا

WA LAA TANQUS MIN HASANAATENAA

And (please) do not lessen our rewards.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَمَا أَعْطَيْتَنَا مِنْ عَطَاءٍ

ALLAAHUMMA WA MAA A-A’TAYTANAA MIN A’TAAA-IN

O Allah, whatever donation You give us,

أَوْ فَضَّلْتَنَا بِهِ مِنْ فَضِيلَةٍ

AW FAZZALTANAA BEHI MIN FAZEELATIN

whatever virtue You confer on us,

أَوْ أَكْرَمْتَنَا بِهِ مِنْ كَرَامَةٍ

AW AKRAMTANAA BEHI MIN KARAAMATIN

whatever endowment You bestow on us,

فَأَعْطِنَا مَعَهُ شُكْراً يَقْهَرُهُ وَيَدْمَغُهُ

FA-A-A’TENAA MA-A’HU SHUKRAN-Y YAQHAROHU WA YADMAGHOHU

(please) grant us with it thanksgiving that repels and fends it off.

وَٱجْعَلْهُ لَنَا صَاعِداً فِي رِضْوَانِكَ

WAJ A’LHO LANAA SAA-E’DAN FEE RIZWAANEKA

And make it ascend for our good toward Your Pleasure,

وَفِي حَسَنَاتِنَا وَسُؤْدَدِنَا

WA FEE HASANAATENAA WA SOADADENAA

and ascend in our rewards, tribute,

وَشَرَفِنَا وَنَعْمَائِكَ

WA SHARAFENAA WA NA’MAAA-EKA

honor, Your boon,

وَكَرَامَتِكَ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

WA KARAAMATEKA FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

and Your honoring (us) in this world as well as the world to come.

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْهُ لَنَا أَشَراً وَلاَ بَطَراً

WA LAA TAJ-A’LHO LANAA ASHARANW WA LAA BATARAN

And (please) do not make it to be for us a source of evil, ungratefulness,

وَلاَ فِتْنَةً وَلاَ مَقْتاً

WA LAA FITNATANW WA LAA MAQTAN

seditious matter, hatred,

وَلاَ عَذَاباً وَلاَ خِزْياً فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

WA LAA A’ZAABANW WA LAA KHIZYAN FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

torture, or disgrace in this world as well as the world to come.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَثْرَةِ ٱللِّسَانِ

ALLAAHUMMA INNAA NA-O’OZO BEKA MIN A’SRATIL LESAANE

O Allah, we do seek Your protection against slips of tongues,

وَسُوءِ ٱلْمَقَامِ

WA SOO-IL MAQAAME

evil situations,

وَخِفَّةِ ٱلْمِيزَانِ

WA KHIFFATIL MEEZAANE

and lightness of the Scale.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَلَقِّنَا حَسَنَاتِنَا فِي ٱلْمَمَاتِ

WA LAQQENAA HASANAATENAA FIL MAMAATE

make us meet our the rewards of good deeds at the hours of our death,

وَلاَ تُرِنَا أَعْمَالَنَا حَسَرَاتٍ

WA LAA TORENAA A-A’MAALANAA HASARAATIN

do not show us the fruits of our deeds as nothing but regrets,

وَلاَ تُخْزِنَا عِنْدَ قَضَائِكَ

WA LAA TUKHZENAA I’NDA QAZAAA-EKA

do not disgrace us when You judge us,

وَلاَ تَفْضَحْنَا بِسَيِّئَاتِنَا يَوْمَ نَلْقَاكَ

WA LAA TAFZAHNAA BE-SAYYE-AATENAA YAWMA NALQAAKA

do not expose us because of our evildoings on the Day when we shall meet You,

وَٱجْعَلْ قُلُوبَنَا تَذْكُرُكَ وَلاَ تَنْسَاكَ

WAJ A’L QOLOOBANAA TAZKOROKA WA LAA TANSAAKA

make our hearts remember You always and never forget You,

وَتَخْشَاكَ كَأَنَّهَا تَرَاكَ حَتَّىٰ نَلْقَاكَ

WA TAKHSHAAKA KA-ANNAHAA TARAAKA HATTAA NALQAAKA

make our hearts fear You as if they can see You until we meet You,

وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

WA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَبَدِّلْ سَيِّئَاتِنَا حَسَنَاتٍ

WA BADDIL SAYYE-AATENAA HASANAATIN

change our evildoings into good deeds,

وَٱجْعَلْ حَسْنَاتِنَا دَرَجَاتٍ

WAJ A’L HASANAATENAA DARAJAATIN

make our good deeds to be grades,

وَٱجْعَلْ دَرَجَاتِنَا غُرُفَاتٍ

WAJ A’L DARAJAATENAA GHOROFAATIN

change our grades into chambers (in Paradise),

وَٱجْعَلْ غُرُفَاتِنَا عَالِيَاتٍ

WAJ A’L GHOROFAATENAA A’ALEYAATIN

and make our chambers high.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَأَوْسِعْ لِفَقِيرِنَا

ALLAAHUMMA WA AWSE’ LE-FAQEERENAA

O Allah, (please do) expand the source of sustenance for our poor people

مِنْ سَعَةِ مَا قَضَيْتَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِكَ

MIN SA-A’TE MAA QAZAYTA A’LAA NAFSEKA

from the expansion that You have taken upon Yourself to make.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَمُنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِٱلْهُدَىٰ مَا أَبْقَيْتَنَا

WA MUNNA A’LAYNAA BIL-HODAA MAA ABQAYTANAA

and endue us with true guidance as long as You grant us life,

وَٱلْكَرَامَةِ مَا أَحْيَيْتَنَا

WAL KARAAMATE MAA AHYAYTANAA

with honor as long as You keep us alive,

وَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ إِذَا تَوَفَّيْتَنَا

WAL MAGHFERATE EZAA TAWAFFAYTANAA

with forgiveness when You decide to cease our lifetime,

وَٱلْحِفْظِ فِي مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمْرِنَا

WAL HIFZE FEE MAA BAQEYA MIN U’MRENAA

with protection in the rest of our lifetime,

وَٱلْبَرَكَةِ فِي مَا رَزَقْتَنَا

WAL BARAKATE FEE MAA RAZAQTANAA

with blessings in the sustenance that You give us,

وَٱلْعَوْنِ عَلَىٰ مَا حَمَّلْتَنَا

WAL A’WNE A’LAA MAA HAMMALTANAA

with help to carry out what You have burdened us with,

وَٱلثَّبَاتِ عَلَىٰ مَا طَوَّقْتَنَا

WAS SABAATE A’LAA MAA TAWWAQTANAA

and with steadfastness against what You have imposed on us.

وَلاَ تُؤاخِذْنَا بِظُلْمِنَا

WA LAA TOAKHIZNAA BE-ZULMENAA

And do not punish us for our wrongdoings,

وَلاَ تُقَايِسْنَا بِجَهْلِنَا

WA LAA TOQAAYISNAA BE-JAHLENAA

do not treat us on basis of our lack of knowledge,

وَلاَ تَسْتَدْرِجْنَا بِخَطَايَانَا

WA LAA TASTADRIJNAA BE-KHATAAYAANAA

do not draw us near to destruction gradually on account of our sins,

وَٱجْعَلْ أَحْسَنَ مَا نَقُولُ ثَابِتاً فِي قُلُوبِنَا

WAJ A’L AHSANA MAA NAQOOLO SAABETAN FEE QOLOOBENAA

make the best of our words to be firm in our hearts,

وَٱجْعَلْنَا عُظَمَاءَ عِنْدَكَ

WAJ A’LNAA O’ZAMAAA-A I’NDAKA

make us to be great persons in Your view

وَأَذِلَّةً فِي أَنْفُسِنَا

WA AZILLATAN FEE ANFOSENAA

but humble ones in our own views,

وَٱنْفَعْنَا بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنَا

WAN FA’NAA BEMAA A’LLAMTANAA

make that which You have taught us to benefit us,

وَزِدْنَا عِلْماً نَافِعاً

WA ZIDNAA I’LMAN NAAFE-A’N

and increase us with useful knowledge.

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَلْبٍ لاََ يَخْشَعُ

WA A-O’OZO BEKA MIN QALBIL LAA YAKHSHA-O’

And I seek Your protection against a heart that does not submit (to You),

وَمِنْ عَيْنٍ لاََ تَدْمَعُ

WA MIN A’YNIL LAA TADMA-O’

an eye that does not shed tears (for fear of You),

وَمِنْ صَلاَةٍ لاََ تُقْبَلُ

WA MIN SALAATIL LAA TUQBALO

and a prayer that is not admitted (by You).

أَجِرْنَا مِنْ سُوءِ الْفِتَنِ

AJIRNAA MIN SOO-IL FETANE

(Please do) rescue us from the evil seditious matters,

يَا وَلِيَّ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

YAA WALIYYAD DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

O Manager of this world and the world to come.
