Bidding Farewell to the Two Imams (Naqi & Askari) — Samarra

Text and Translation

Salat-Dua- Farewell

Offer the Ziyarah Prayer and then you may say the following dua:

يَا ذَا ٱلْقُدْرَةِ ٱلْجَامِعَةِ

YAA ZAL QUDRATIL JAAME-A’TE

O Lord of omnipotent power!

وَٱلرَّحْمَةِ ٱلْوَاسِعَةِ

WAR RAHMATIL WAASE-A’TE

O Lord of all-inclusive mercy!

وَٱلْمِنَنِ ٱلْمُتَتَابِعَةِ

WAL MENANIL MOTATAABE-A’TE

O Lord of successive favors!

وَٱلآلاَءِ ٱلْمُتَوَاتِرَةِ

WAL AALAAA-IL MOTAWAATERATE

O Lord of uninterrupted bounties!

وَٱلايَادِي ٱلْجَلِيلَةِ

WAL AYAADIL JALEELATE

O Lord of magnificent bestowals!

وَٱلْمَوَاهِبِ ٱلْجَزِيلَةِ

WAL MAWAAHEBIL JAZEELATE

O Lord of abundant conferrals!

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ

SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIS SAADEQEENA

(Please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad the veracious ones,

وَاعْطِنِي سُؤْلِي

WA A-A’TENEE SOALEE

grant me that which I ask from You,

وَٱجْمَعْ شَمْلِي

WAJ MA’ SHAMLEE

re-unify me (with my family),

وَلُمَّ شَعْثِي

WA LUMMA SHA’SEE

unite me (with my family),

وَزَكِّ عَمَلِي

WA ZAKKE A’MALEE

purify my deeds,

وَلاَ تُزِغْ قَلْبِي بَعْدَ إِِذْ هَدَيْتَنِي

WA LAA TOZIGH QALBEE BA’DA IZ HADAYTANEE

cause not my heart to stray after You have guided me,

وَلاَ تُزِلَّ قَدَمِي

WA LAA TOZILLA QADAMEE

cause not my footstep to slip,

وَلاَ تَكِلْنِي إِلَىٰ نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ ابَداً

WA LAA TAKILNEE ELAA NAFSEE TARFATA A’YNIN ABADAN

never refer me to myself even for a time as short as a wink of an eye,

وَلاَ تُخَيِّبْ طَمَعِي

WA LAA TOKHAYYIB TAMA-E’E

disappoint not my desire,

وَلاَ تُبْدِ عَوْرَتِي

WA LAA TUBDE A’WRATEE

expose not my private parts,

وَلاَ تَهْتِكْ سِتْرِي

WA LAA TAHTIK SITREE

disclose not my covering,

وَلاَ تُوحِشْنِي وَلاَ تُؤْيِسْنِي

WA LAA TOOHISHNEE WA LAA TOAYISNEE

cause me not to feel lonely, despair me not,

وَكُنْ بِي رَؤُوفاً رَحِيماً

WA KUN BEE RA-OOFAR RAHEEMAN

be to me kind and merciful,

وَٱهْدِنِي وَزَكِّنِي

WAH DENEE WA ZAKKENEE

guide me (to the right path), make me grow,

وَطَهِّرْنِي وَصَفِّنِي

WA TAHHIRNEE WA SAFFENEE

purify me, cleanse me,

وَٱصْطَفِنِي وَخَلِّصْنِي وَٱسْتَخْلِصْنِي

WAS TAFENEE WA KHALLISNEE WAS TAKHLISNEE

dedicate me to You, select me, render me suitable,

وَٱصْنَعْنِي وَٱصْطَنِعْنِي

WAS NA’NEE WAS TANE’NEE

arrange me for You alone, attach me to Yourself,

وَقَرِّبْنِي إِِلَيْكَ وَلاَ تُبَاعِدْنِي مِنْكَ

WA QARRIBNEE ELAYKA WA LAA TOBAA-I’DNEE MINKA

draw me near You, take me not far away from You,

وَٱلْطُفْ بِي وَلاَ تَجْفُنِي

WAL TUF BEE WA LAA TAJFONEE

be kind to me, do not turn away from me,

وَاكْرِمْنِي وَلاَ تُهِنِّي

WA AKRIMNEE WA LAA TOHINNEE

honor me, do not humiliate me,

وَمَا اسْالُكَ فَلاَ تَحْرِمْنِي

WA MAA AS-ALOKA FALAA TAHRIMNEE

do not deprive me of all that which I ask from You,

وَمَا لاََ اسْالُكَ فَٱجْمَعْهُ لِي

WA MAA LAA AS-ALOKA FAJMA’HO LEE

and give me altogether all that which I have not asked from You.

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

BE-RAHMATEKA YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA

(Please do all that) in the name of Your mercy, O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

وَاسْالُكَ بِحُرْمَةِ وَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ

WA AS-ALOKA BE-HURMATE WAJHEKAL KAREEME

I also beseech You in the name of the sacredness of Your Honorable Face,

وَبِحُرْمَةِ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ

WA BE-HURMATE NABIYYEKA MOHAMMADIN

the sanctity of Your Prophet Muhammad,

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

SALAWAATOKA A’LAYHE WA AALEHI

may Your blessings be upon him and upon his Household,

وَبِحُرْمَةِ اهْلِ بَيْتِ رَسُولِكَ

WA BE-HURMATE AHLE BAYTE RASOOLEKA

and the sanctity of Your Prophets Household;

امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيٍّ

AMEERIL MOAMENEENA A’LIYYIN

namely, Ali the Commander of the Faithful,

وَٱلْحَسَنِ وَٱلْحُسَيْنِ

WAL HASANE WAL HOSAYNE

al-Hasan, al-Husayn,

وَعَلِيٍّ وَمُحَمَّدٍ

WA A’LIYYINW WA MOHAMMADIN

Ali, Muhammad,

وَجَعْفَرٍ ومُوسَىٰ

WA JA’FARINW WA MOOSAA

Ja`far, Musa,

وَعَلَيٍّ وَمُحَمَّدٍ

WA A’LIYYINW WA MOHAMMADIN

Ali, Muhammad,

وَعَلِيٍّ وَٱلْحَسَنِ

WA A’LIYYINW WAL HASANE

Ali, al-Hasan,

وَٱلْخَلَفِ ٱلْبَاقِي

WAL KHALAFIL BAAQEE

and the Remaining Successor;

صَلَوَاتُكَ وَبَرَكَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِمِ

SALAWAATOKA WA BARAKAATOKA A’LAYHIM

may Your benedictions and blessings be upon them all,

انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِمْ اجْمَعِينَ

AN TOSALLEYA A’LAYHIM AJMA-E’ENA

(I beseech You in their names) to send blessings upon all of them,

وَتُعَجِّلَ فَرَجَ قَائِمِهِمْ بِامْرِكَ

WA TO-A’JJELA FARAJA QAAA-EMEHIM BE-AMREKA

hasten the Relief of their Rising Imam by Your permission,

وَتَنْصُرَهُ وَتَنْتَصِرَ بِهِ لِدِينِكَ

WA TANSORAHU WA TANTASERA BEHI LE-DEENEKA

support him, betake him as the means of victory of Your religion,

وَتَجْعَلَنِي فِي جُمْلَةِ ٱلنَّاجِينَ بِهِ

WA TAJ-A’LANEE FEE JUMLATIN NAAJEENA BEHI

and include me with those who shall be redeemed through him

وَٱلْمُخْلِصِينَ فِي طَاعَتِهِ

WAL MUKHLESEENA FEE TAA-A’TEHI

and those who act sincerely in obedience to him.

وَاسْالُكَ بِحَقِّهِمْ

WA AS-ALOKA BE-HAQQEHIM

I also beseech You in the name of their right

لَمَّا ٱسْتَجَبْتَ لِي دَعْوَتِي

LAMMAS TAJABTA LEE DA’WATEE

to respond to my prayer,

وَقَضَيْتَ لِي حَاجَتِي

WA QAZAYTA LEE HAAJATEE

grant me my needs,

وَاعْطَيْتَنِي سُؤْلِي

WA A-A’TAYTANEE SOALEE

answer my requests,

وَكَفَيْتَنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي

WA KAFAYTANEE MAA AHAMMANEE

and save me from whatever aggrieves me

مِنْ امْرِ دُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي

MIN AMRE DUNYAAYA WA AAKHERATEE

from the affairs of this world as well as the world to come.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

يَا نُورُ يَا بُرْهَانُ

YAA NOORO YAA BURHAANO

O Light! O Evident!

يَا مُنِيرُ يَا مُبِينُ

YAA MONEERO YAA MOBEENO

O Granter of light! O Granter of evidence!

يَا رَبِّ ٱكْفِنِي شَرَّ ٱلشُّرُورِ

YAA RABBIK FENEE SHARRASH SHOROORE

O Lord! (Please do) save me from all evils

وَآفَاتِ ٱلدُّهُورِ

WA AAFAATID DOHOORE

and from vicissitudes of time.

وَاسْالُكَ ٱلنَّجَاةَ

WA AS-ALOKAN NAJAATA

I also beseech You for redemption

يَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي ٱلصُّورِ

YAWMA YUNFAKHO FIS SOORE

on the Day when the Trumpet is blown.

You may then pray Almighty Allah for anything you wish.

You may also repeat the following prayer as many times as possible:

يَا عُدَّتِي عِنْدَ ٱلْعُدَدِ

YAA U’DDATEE I’NDAL O’DADE

O my means when I lack means!

وَيَا رَجَائِي وَٱلْمُعْتَمَدَ

WA YAA RAJAAA-EE WAL MO’TAMADA

O my hope and my trust!

وَيَا كَهْفِي وَٱلسَّنَدَ

WA YAA KAHFEE WAS SANADA

O my haven and my support!

يَا وَاحِدُ يَا احَدُ

YAA WAAHEDO YAA AHADO

O One! O One and Only!

وَيَا قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ احَدٌ

WA YAA QUL HOWAL LAAHO AHADUN

O (described in) "Say: He is Allah, the One."

اسْالُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ بِحَقِّ مَنْ خَلَقْتَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

AS-ALOKAL LAAHUMMA BEHAQQE MAN KHALAQTA MIN KHALQEKA

I beseech You in the name of those whom You created from among Your creations

وَلَمْ تَجْعَلْ فِي خَلْقِكَ مِثْلَهُمْ احَداً

WA LAM TAJ-A’L FEE KHALQEKA MISLAHUM AHADAN

but You have not made anyone to be like them at all,

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ جَمَاعَتِهِمْ

SALLE A’LAA JAMAA-A’TEHIM

(please do) send blessings upon them all...

You may now submit your requests (before Almighty Allah). Imam al-Hadi, peace be upon him, is reported to have said, "I have besought Allah the Almighty and All-majestic not to disappoint any one who says this prayer in my shrine."

Bidding Farewell to the two imams

When you intend to bid farewell to the two holy Imams, you may stop at the holy tomb and say the following words:

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمَا يَا وَلِيَّيِ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKOMAA YAA WALIYYAYIL LAAHE

Peace be upon both of you, O Allah’s representatives.

اسْتَوْدِعُكُمَا ٱللَّهَ

ASTAWDE-O’KOMAL LAAHA

I entrust you both with Allah

وَاقْرَا عَلَيْكُمَا ٱلسَّلاَمَ

WA AQRAA A’LAYKOMAS SALAAMA

and invoke His peace upon you both.

آمَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ

AAMANNAA BILLAAHE WA BIR-RASOOLE

We believe in Allah, in the Messenger,

وَبِمَا جِئْتُمَا بِهِ وَدَلَلْتُمَا عَلَيْهِ

WA BEMAA JEATOMAA BEHI WA DALALTOMAA A’LAYHE

and in that which you both have come with and instructed.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱكْتُبْنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّاهِدينَ

ALLAAHUMMAK TUBNAA MA-A’SH SHAAHEDEENA

O Allah, write us down with those who bear witness.

اَللَّهُمَّ لاََ تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ ٱلْعَهْدِ

ALLAAHUMMA LAA TAJ-A’LHO AAKHERAL A’HDE

O Allah, (please) do not decide this visit

مِنْ زِيَارَتِي إِِيَّاهُمَا

MIN ZEYAARATEE IYYAAHOMAA

to be the last visit of mine to them;

وَٱرْزُقْنِي ٱلْعَوْدَ إِِلَيْهِمَا

WAR ZUQNIL A’WDA ELAYHEMAA

rather, grant me more chances to re-visit them

وَٱحْشُرْنِي مَعَهُمَا

WAH SHURNEE MA-A’HOMAA

and include me with both of them,

وَمَعَ آبَائِهِمَا ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

WA MA-A’ AABAAA-EHEMAT TAAHEREENA

with their immaculate fathers,

وَٱلْقَائِمِ ٱلْحُجَّةِ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا

WAL QAAA-EMIL HUJJATE MIN ZURRIYYATEHEMAA

and with the Rising, Argument Imam from their offspring.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA

O most merciful of all those who show mercy.
