Fifteenth Night of Shaban

Text and Translation

Dua Kumayl: Narrations especially recommend [Dua Kumayl](E31) for this night.

Litany ×100: It is repeated a hundred times so that past disobedience is forgiven and worldly and religious needs are granted.

Prayer & dua after Isha: Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, narrates that Abu-Yahya asked Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a) about the best supplication for this night. By Allah, even if your requests were as numerous as raindrops, Allah would grant them all out of His generosity and favor.

Dua after the Shaf’ Prayer: Shaykh al-Tusi and Shaykh al-Kaf'ami say it is fitting to say this dua this night, recommended right after the Shaf' Prayer at the last hours of the night.

Shaykh al-Tusi and Sayyid Ibn Tawus narrate a supplication to be said after each two units of the Night Prayer, the Shaf’ Prayer, and the Witr Prayer.

Prophet’s prostration duas: Shaykh al-Tusi narrates, on the authority of Hammad ibn Isa, from Aban ibn Taghlib, from Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a): it was the fifteenth night of Shaban when the Holy Prophet (s) was with his wife Aisha. At midnight the Prophet left the bed; when Aisha awoke and could not find him, she grew jealous, thinking he had gone to another wife, and rose, putting on her cloak — made of neither silk, linen, nor cotton, but camel hair. She searched the rooms of his other wives but found him prostrate on the ground like a discarded garment. Drawing near, she heard him saying these supplications. When the Prophet finished and turned back to bed, Aisha hurried ahead and reached it first. Hearing her fast breathing, he wondered aloud, then said, "Do you know what night this is? This is the mid-Shaban night. On it shares of provision are distributed, lifetimes are decided, and pilgrims of the coming year are appointed. Allah, this night, forgives as many of His creatures as the hairs on the horses of the Kalb tribe, and sends angels down to the earth, to Makkah."

Namaz of Jafar-e-Tayyaar: Narrated by Shaykh al-Tusi from Imam al-Rida (a).

Four-unit prayer: Reported by Abu-Yahya al-San'ani and thirty other trustworthy narrators from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a). Traditions have set a great reward for whoever offers a hundred-unit prayer this night, reciting Surah al-Faatehah once and Surah al-Ikhlas ten times in each unit.

Ghusl, Night Vigil & Ziyarat

Bathe on this night.

Spend this whole night in worship, prayer, supplication and seeking forgiveness, as Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn, Zayn al-Abidin (a) used to.

Visit the tomb of Imam al-Husayn (a).

A short form of this ziyarah: stand on elevated ground, look right and left, raise your head to the sky and say:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَاۤ اَبَا عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

ASSALAAMU A'LAYKA YAA ABAA A'BDIL LAAH ASSALAAMU A'LAYKA WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUH

Peace be upon you, O Abu Abdillah; peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

Ziyarah of Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.)

اَللّٰهُمَّ بِحَقِّ لَيْلَتِنَا هٰذِهِ وَمَوْلُوْدِهَا وَحُجَّتِكَ وَمَوْعُوْدِهَا الَّتِيْ قَرَنْتَ اِلٰى فَضْلِهَا فَضْلًا فَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُكَ صِدْقًا وَعَدْلًا لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِكَ وَلَا مُعَقِّبَ لِاٰيَاتِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA BI-HAQQI LAYLATINAA HAAZIHI WA MAWLOODIHAA WA HUJJATIKA WA MAW-U'WDIHAA-LLATEE QARANTA ILAA FADLIHAA FADLAA, FATAMMAT KALIMATUKA SIDQAW WA A'DLAA, LAA MUBADDILA LI-KALIMAATIK WA LAA MU-A'QQIBA LI-AAYAATIK

O Allah, by the right of this night of ours, and its Newborn, and Your Proof and its Promised One — the night to whose merit You have joined further merit, so Your Word was fulfilled in truth and justice; none can alter Your words, and none can pursue Your signs;

نُوْرُكَ الْمُتَاَلِّقُ وَضِيَاۤؤُكَ الْمُشْرِقُ وَالْعَلَمُ النُّوْرُ فِيْ طَخْيَاۤءِ الدَّيْجُوْرِ الْغَاۤئِبُ الْمَسْتُوْرُ

NOORUKAL MUTA-ALLIQ WA DIYAAA-UKAL MUSHRIQ WAL A'LAMUN NOORU FEE TAKHYAAA-ID DAYJOOR AL-GHAAA-IBUL MASTOOR

he is Your radiant light, Your shining brightness, the luminous banner amid the pitch darkness — the hidden, the veiled one,

جَلَّ مَوْلِدُهُ وَكَرُمَ مَحْتِدُهُ وَالْمَلَاۤئِكَةُ شُهَّدُهُ وَاللّٰهُ نَاصِرُهُ وَمُؤَيِّدُهُ اِذَا اٰنَ مِيْعَادُهُ وَالْمَلَاۤئِكَةُ اَمْدَادُهُ

JALLA MAWLIDUHU WA KARUMA MAHTIDUH, WAL MALAAA-IKATU SHUHHADUH, WALLAAHO NAASIRUHU WA MU-AYYIDUH, IZAA AANA MEE-A'ADUHU WAL MALAAA-IKATU AMDAADUH

lofty is his birth and noble his lineage, the angels are his witnesses, and Allah is his helper and supporter; when his appointed time arrives, the angels shall be his reinforcements,

سَيْفُ اللّٰهِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَنْبُوْ وَنُوْرُهُ الَّذِيْ لَا يَخْبُوْ وَذُوْ الْحِلْمِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَصْبُوْ

SAYFUL LAAHIL LAZEE LAA YANBOO WA NOORUHUL LAZEE LAA YAKHBOO WA ZUL HILMIL LAZEE LAA YASBOO

he is the sword of Allah that never fails, His light that never dims, and the possessor of forbearance who never inclines to folly,

مَدَارُ الدَّهْرِ وَنَوَامِيْسُ الْعَصْرِ وَوُلَاةُ الْاَمْرِ وَالْمُنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا يَتَنَزَّلُ فِيْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

MADAARUD DAHRI WA NAWAAMEESUL A'SRI WA WULAATUL AMRI WAL MUNAZZALU A'LAYHIM MAA YATANAZZALU FEE LAYLATIL QADR

the pivot of time, the laws of the age, the holders of authority, upon whom descends what is sent down on the Night of Decree,

وَاَصْحَابُ الْحَشْرِ وَالنَّشْرِ تَرَاجِمَةُ وَحْيِهِ وَوُلَاةُ اَمْرِهِ وَنَهْيِهِ

WA ASHAABUL HASHRI WAN NASHRI TARAAJIMATU WAHYIH WA WULAATU AMRIHI WA NAHYIH

and the masters of the Gathering and the Resurrection, the interpreters of His revelation and the executors of His command and His prohibition.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰى خَاتِمِهِمْ وَقَاۤئِمِهِمُ الْمَسْتُوْرِ عَنْ عَوَالِمِهِمْ

ALLAAHUMMA FASALLI A'LAA KHAATIMIHIM WA QAAA-IMIHIMUL MASTOORI A'N A'WAALIMIHIM

O Allah, so bless their seal and their Riser, hidden from their worlds,

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَاَدْرِكْ بِنَاۤ اَيَّامَهُ وَظُهُوْرَهُ وَقِيَامَهُ وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ اَنْصَارِهِ وَاقْرِنْ ثَارَنَا بِثَارِهِ

ALLAAHUMMA WA ADRIK BINAAA AYYAAMAHU WA ZUHOORAHU WA QIYAAMAH, WAJ-A'LNAA MIN ANSAARIH, WAQRIN THAARANAA BI-THAARIH

O Allah, let us reach his days, his manifestation, and his rising; make us among his supporters; join our claim for retribution with his,

وَاكْتُبْنَا فِيْۤ اَعْوَانِهِ وَخُلَصَاۤئِهِ وَاَحْيِنَا فِيْ دَوْلَتِهِ نَاعِمِيْنَ وَبِصُحْبَتِهِ غَانِمِيْنَ وَبِحَقِّهِ قَاۤئِمِيْنَ وَمِنَ السُّوْۤءِ سَالِمِيْنَ

WAKTUBNAA FEE A'WAANIHI WA KHULASAAA-IH, WA AHYINAA FEE DAWLATIHI NAA-I'MEEN, WA BI-SUHBATIHI GHAANIMEEN, WA BI-HAQQIHI QAAA-IMEEN, WA MINAS SOOO-I SAALIMEEN

and record us among his helpers and his intimates; let us live in his rule in bliss, gaining through his company, upholding his right, and safe from all harm — O Most Merciful of the merciful.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ وَصَلَوَاتُهُ عَلٰى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَالْمُرْسَلِيْنَ وَعَلٰى اَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الصَّادِقِيْنَ وَعِتْرَتِهِ النَّاطِقِيْنَ وَالْعَنْ جَمِيْعَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ وَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ يَاۤ اَحْكَمَ الْحَاكِمِيْنَ

WAL HAMDU LILLAAHI RABBIL A'ALAMEEN, WA SALAWAATUHU A'LAA SAYYIDINAA MUHAMMADIN KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA WAL MURSALEEN, WA A'LAA AHLI BAYTIHIS SAADIQEEN WA I'TRATIHIN NAATIQEEN, WAL A'N JAMEE-A'Z ZAALIMEEN, WAHKUM BAYNANAA WA BAYNAHUM YAA AHKAMAL HAAKIMEEN

And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and His blessings upon our master Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets and Messengers, and upon his truthful Household and his eloquent progeny; and curse all wrongdoers, and judge between us and them, O Most Just of judges.

Dua Allahumma Anta al-Hayy al-Qayyum

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيْمُ الْخَالِقُ الرَّازِقُ الْمُحْيِيْ الْمُمِيْتُ الْبَدِيْۤءُ الْبَدِيْعُ

ALLAAHUMMA ANTAL HAYYUL QAYYOOM, AL-A'LIYYUL A'ZEEM, AL-KHAALIQUR RAAZIQ, AL-MUHYIL MUMEET, AL-BADEE-O'L BADEE'

O Allah, You are the Ever-living, the Self-subsisting, the Most High, the All-magnificent, the Creator, the Sustainer, the Giver of life, the Bringer of death, the Beginner, the Innovator;

لَكَ الْجَلَالُ وَلَكَ الْفَضْلُ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَلَكَ الْمَنُّ وَلَكَ الْجُوْدُ وَلَكَ الْكَرَمُ وَلَكَ الْاَمْرُ وَلَكَ الْمَجْدُ وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ

LAKAL JALAAL, WA LAKAL FADL, WA LAKAL HAMD, WA LAKAL MANN, WA LAKAL JOOD, WA LAKAL KARAM, WA LAKAL AMR, WA LAKAL MAJD, WA LAKASH SHUKR, WAHDAKA LAA SHAREEKA LAK

Yours is the majesty, Yours the bounty, Yours the praise, Yours the favor, Yours the generosity, Yours the nobility, Yours the command, Yours the glory, and Yours the thanks, alone, with no partner unto You;

يَا وَاحِدُ يَا اَحَدُ يَا صَمَدُ يَا مَنْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُوْلَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا اَحَدٌ

YAA WAAHIDO YAA AHADO YAA SAMADO YAA MAL LAM YALID WA LAM YOOLAD WA LAM YAKUL LAHU KUFUWAN AHAD

O One, O Only, O Self-sufficient, O He Who has not begotten and was not begotten, and there is none comparable to Him.

صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاغْفِرْ لِيْ وَارْحَمْنِيْ وَاكْفِنِيْ مَاۤ اَهَمَّنِيْ وَاقْضِ دَيْنِيْ وَوَسِّعْ عَلَيَّ فِيْ رِزْقِيْ

SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIW WA AALI MUHAMMAD, WAGH FIR LEE WARHAMNEE WAKFINEE MAAA AHAMMANEE, WAQDI DAYNEE, WA WASSI' A'LAYYA FEE RIZQEE

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, forgive me, have mercy on me, spare me what worries me, settle my debt, and expand my sustenance for me,

فَاِنَّكَ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ كُلَّ اَمْرٍ حَكِيْمٍ تَفْرُقُ وَمَنْ تَشَاۤءُ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ تَرْزُقُ فَارْزُقْنِيْ وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِيْنَ

FA-INNAKA FEE HAAZIHIL LAYLATI KULLA AMRIN HAKEEMIN TAFRUQ, WA MAN TASHAAA-O MIN KHALQIKA TARZUQ, FARZUQNEE WA ANTA KHAYRUR RAAZIQEEN

for on this night You distinguish every wise matter, and You provide for whomever You will among Your creatures; so provide for me, for You are the Best of providers.

فَاِنَّكَ قُلْتَ وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْقَاۤئِلِيْنَ وَالنَّاطِقِيْنَ وَاسْئَلُوْا اللّٰهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ فَمِنْ فَضْلِكَ اَسْاَلُ

FA-INNAKA QULTA WA ANTA KHAYRUL QAAA-ILEENA WAN NAATIQEEN, WAS-ALUL LAAHA MIN FADLIH, FAMIN FADLIKA AS-AL

For You have said — and You are the Best of speakers — "Ask Allah of His bounty"; so of Your bounty I ask,

وَاِيَّاكَ قَصَدْتُ وَابْنَ نَبِيِّكَ اعْتَمَدْتُ وَلَكَ رَجَوْتُ فَارْحَمْنِيْ يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

WA IYYAAKA QASADT, WABNA NABIYYIKA A'TAMADT, WA LAKA RAJAWT, FARHAMNEE YAA ARHAMAR RAAHIMEEN

and toward You I have directed myself, and upon the son of Your Prophet I have relied, and in You I have hoped; so have mercy on me, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Dua Allahummaqsim Lana

It may be recited at any time:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ مَا يَحُوْلُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ مَعْصِيَتِكَ وَمِنْ طَاعَتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّغُنَا بِهِ رِضْوَانَكَ وَمِنَ الْيَقِيْنِ مَا يَهُوْنُ عَلَيْنَا بِهِ مُصِيْبَاتُ الدُّنْيَا

ALLAAHUMMAQ SIM LANAA MIN KHASHYATIKA MAA YAHOOLU BAYNANAA WA BAYNA MA'SIYATIK, WA MIN TAA-A'TIKA MAA TUBALLIGHUNAA BIHI RIDWAANAK, WA MINAL YAQEENI MAA YAHOONU A'LAYNAA BIHI MUSEEBAATUD DUNYAA

O Allah, apportion for us of Your fear that which comes between us and disobedience to You, and of Your obedience that which brings us to Your good pleasure, and of certainty that which makes the calamities of this world light upon us,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَمْتِعْنَا بِاَسْمَاعِنَا وَاَبْصَارِنَا وَقُوَّتِنَا مَاۤ اَحْيَيْتَنَا وَاجْعَلْهُ الْوَارِثَ مِنَّا

ALLAAHUMMA AMTI-A'NAA BI-ASMAA-A'NAA WA ABSAARINAA WA QUWWATINAA MAA AHYAYTANAA, WAJ-A'LHUL WAARISA MINNAA

O Allah, let us enjoy our hearing, our sight, and our strength for as long as You keep us alive, and make them what outlasts us,

وَاجْعَلْ ثَارَنَا عَلٰى مَنْ ظَلَمَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلٰى مَنْ عَادَانَا وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مُصِيْبَتَنَا فِيْ دِيْنِنَا

WAJ-A'L THAARANAA A'LAA MAN ZALAMANAA, WANSURNAA A'LAA MAN A'ADAANAA, WA LAA TAJ-A'L MUSEEBATANAA FEE DEENINAA

grant us retribution against whoever wrongs us, give us victory over whoever is hostile to us, and do not let our affliction be in our religion,

وَلَا تَجْعَلِ الدُّنْيَا اَكْبَرَ هَمِّنَا وَلَا مَبْلَغَ عِلْمِنَا وَلَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْنَا مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمُنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

WA LAA TAJ-A'LID DUNYAA AKBARA HAMMINAA WA LAA MABLAGHA I'LMINAA, WA LAA TUSALLIT A'LAYNAA MAL LAA YARHAMUNAA, BI-RAHMATIKA YAA ARHAMAR RAAHIMEEN

and do not make the world our greatest concern nor the sum of our knowledge, and do not let anyone rule over us who has no mercy on us — by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Salawat, Dua Kumayl & Litany ×100

Recite the midday salawat of Sha’ban: [Daily Salawat of Shaban](Y3).

Recite [Dua Kumayl](E31).

Repeat 100 times:

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَاللهُ اَكْبَرُ وَلَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ

SUBHAANAL LAAHI WAL HAMDU LILLAAHI WALLAAHO AKBAR WA LAA ILAAHA ILLAL LAAH

Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no god but Allah.

Prayer & Dua after Isha

After the obligatory Isha prayer, offer a two-unit prayer: in the first unit recite [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) and [Surah al-Kafirun](A113), in the second [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) and [Surah al-Ikhlas](A116).

On finishing, repeat "SubhanAllah" thirty-three times, "Alhamdulillah" thirty-three times, and "Allahu Akbar" thirty-four times, then say:

يَا مَنْ اِلَيْهِ مَلْجَاُ الْعِبَادِ فِي الْمُهِمَّاتِ وَاِلَيْهِ يَفْزَعُ الْخَلْقُ فِي الْمُلِمَّاتِ

YAA MAN ILAYHI MALJA-UL I'BAADI FIL MUHIMMAAT, WA ILAYHI YAFZA-U'L KHALQU FIL MULIMMAAT

O He to Whom servants turn for refuge in urgent matters, and to Whom creation flees in calamities,

يَا عَالِمَ الْجَهْرِ وَالْخَفِيَّاتِ يَا مَنْ لَا تَخْفٰى عَلَيْهِ خَوَاطِرُ الْاَوْهَامِ وَتَصَرُّفُ الْخَطَرَاتِ

YAA A'ALIMAL JAHRI WAL KHAFIYYAAT, YAA MAL LAA TAKHFAA A'LAYHI KHAWAATIRUL AWHAAMI WA TASARRUFUL KHATARAAT

O Knower of the open and the hidden, O He from Whom the passing thoughts of illusion and the shifting of ideas are not concealed,

يَا رَبَّ الْخَلَاۤئِقِ وَالْبَرِيَّاتِ يَا مَنْ بِيَدِهِ مَلَكُوْتُ الْاَرَضِيْنَ وَالسَّمَاوَاتِ

YAA RABBAL KHALAAA-IQI WAL BARIYYAAT, YAA MAM BI-YADIHI MALAKOOTUL ARADEENA WAS SAMAAWAAT

O Lord of all creatures and beings, O He in Whose hand is the dominion of the earths and the heavens,

اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ اَمُتُّ اِلَيْكَ بِلَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ فَيَا لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ

ANTAL LAAHO LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT, AMUTTU ILAYKA BI-LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT, FA-YAA LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

You are Allah, there is no god but You; I connect myself to You by "there is no god but You"; so O He besides Whom there is no god,

اجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ مِمَّنْ نَظَرْتَ اِلَيْهِ فَرَحِمْتَهُ وَسَمِعْتَ دُعَاۤءَهُ فَاَجَبْتَهُ وَعَلِمْتَ اسْتِقَالَتَهُ فَاَقَلْتَهُ وَتَجَاوَزْتَ عَنْ سَالِفِ خَطِيْۤئَتِهِ وَعَظِيْمِ جَرِيْرَتِهِ

IJ-A'LNEE FEE HAAZIHIL LAYLATI MIMMAN NAZARTA ILAYHI FARAHIMTAH, WA SAMI'TA DU-A'AA-AHU FA-AJABTAH, WA A'LIMTAS TIQAALATAHU FA-AQALTAH, WA TAJAAWAZTA A'N SAALIFI KHATEE-ATIHI WA A'ZEEMI JAREERATIH

make me, this night, among those upon whom You have looked with mercy, whose supplication You have heard and answered, whose plea for release You have known and granted, and whose past sins and grave offenses You have overlooked.

فَقَدِ اسْتَجَرْتُ بِكَ مِنْ ذُنُوْبِيْ وَلَجَأْتُ اِلَيْكَ فِيْ سَتْرِ عُيُوْبِيْ

FAQADIS TAJARTU BIKA MIN ZUNOOBEE WA LAJA-TU ILAYKA FEE SATRI U'YOOBEE

I have indeed taken refuge in You from my sins, and have taken shelter in You for the covering of my faults.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَجُدْ عَلَيَّ بِكَرَمِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ وَاحْطُطْ خَطَايَايَ بِحِلْمِكَ وَعَفْوِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA FAJUD A'LAYYA BI-KARAMIKA WA FADLIK, WAHTUT KHATAAYAAYA BI-HILMIKA WA A'FWIK

O Allah, be generous to me with Your nobility and bounty, and remove my sins by Your forbearance and pardon,

وَتَغَمَّدْنِيْ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ بِسَابِغِ كَرَامَتِكَ وَاجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْهَا مِنْ اَوْلِيَاۤئِكَ الَّذِيْنَ اجْتَبَيْتَهُمْ لِطَاعَتِكَ وَاخْتَرْتَهُمْ لِعِبَادَتِكَ وَجَعَلْتَهُمْ خَالِصَتَكَ وَصَفْوَتَكَ

WA TAGHAMMADNEE FEE HAAZIHIL LAYLATI BI-SAABIGHI KARAAMATIK, WAJ-A'LNEE FEEHAA MIN AWLIYAAA-IKAL LAZEENAJ TABAYTAHUM LI-TAA-A'TIK, WAKH TARTAHUM LI-I'BAADATIK, WA JA-A'LTAHUM KHAALISATAKA WA SAFWATAK

and envelop me this night with Your abundant honor, and make me, in it, among Your friends whom You have selected for Your obedience, chosen for Your worship, and made Your own elite and pure ones.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِمَّنْ سَعَدَ جَدُّهُ وَتَوَفَّرَ مِنَ الْخَيْرَاتِ حَظُّهُ وَاجْعَلْنِيْ مِمَّنْ سَلِمَ فَنَعِمَ وَفَازَ فَغَنِمَ

ALLAAHUMMAJ-A'LNEE MIMMAN SA-I'DA JADDUH, WA TAWAFFARA MINAL KHAYRAATI HAZZUH, WAJ-A'LNEE MIMMAN SALIMA FANA-I'MA WA FAAZA FAGHANIM

O Allah, make me among those whose fortune is blessed, whose share of good is abundant, and make me among those who are spared and so are blessed, who succeed and so gain,

وَاكْفِنِيْ شَرَّ مَاۤ اَسْلَفْتُ وَاعْصِمْنِيْ مِنَ الْاِزْدِيَادِ فِيْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ وَحَبِّبْ اِلَيَّ طَاعَتَكَ وَمَا يُقَرِّبُنِيْ مِنْكَ وَيُزْلِفُنِيْ عِنْدَكَ

WAKFINEE SHARRA MAAA ASLAFT, WA A'SIMNEE MINAL IZDIYAADI FEE MA'SIYATIK, WA HABBIB ILAYYA TAA-A'TAKA WA MAA YUQARRIBUNEE MINKA WA YUZLIFUNEE I'NDAK

and spare me the evil of what I have committed before, protect me from adding to my disobedience to You, and make dear to me Your obedience and whatever draws me near to You and brings me closer to You.

سَيِّدِيْۤ اِلَيْكَ يَلْجَاُ الْهَارِبُ وَمِنْكَ يَلْتَمِسُ الطَّالِبُ وَعَلٰى كَرَمِكَ يُعَوِّلُ الْمُسْتَقِيْلُ التَّاۤئِبُ

SAYYIDEE ILAYKA YALJA-UL HAARIB, WA MINKA YALTAMISUT TAALIB, WA A'LAA KARAMIKA YU-A'WWILUL MUSTAQEELUT TAAA-IB

My Master, to You the fugitive takes refuge, from You the seeker requests, and upon Your generosity the penitent seeking release relies.

اَدَّبْتَ عِبَادَكَ بِالتَّكَرُّمِ وَاَنْتَ اَكْرَمُ الْاَكْرَمِيْنَ وَاَمَرْتَ بِالْعَفْوِ عِبَادَكَ وَاَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ

ADDABTA I'BAADAKA BIT TAKARRUM, WA ANTA AKRAMUL AKRAMEEN, WA AMARTA BIL A'FWI I'BAADAK, WA ANTAL GHAFOORUR RAHEEM

You have taught Your servants generosity, and You are the most Generous of the generous; You have commanded Your servants to pardon, and You are the All-forgiving, the All-merciful.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَلَا تَحْرِمْنِيْ مَا رَجَوْتُ مِنْ كَرَمِكَ وَلَا تُؤْيِسْنِيْ مِنْ سَابِغِ نِعَمِكَ وَلَا تُخَيِّبْنِيْ مِنْ جَزِيْلِ قِسَمِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA FALAA TAHRIMNEE MAA RAJAWTU MIN KARAMIK, WA LAA TU-YISNEE MIN SAABIGHI NI-A'MIK, WA LAA TUKHAYYIBNEE MIN JAZEELI QISAMIK

O Allah, so do not deprive me of what I have hoped for from Your generosity, and do not make me despair of Your abundant blessings, and do not disappoint me of Your generous portion,

فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ لِاَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ وَاجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْ جُنَّةٍ مِنْ شِرَارِ بَرِيَّتِكَ

FEE HAAZIHIL LAYLATI LI-AHLI TAA-A'TIK, WAJ-A'LNEE FEE JUNNATIM MIN SHIRAARI BARIYYATIK

that You grant this night to those who obey You, and place me in a shield against the wicked of Your creation.

رَبِّ اِنْ لَمْ اَكُنْ مِنْ اَهْلِ ذٰلِكَ فَاَنْتَ اَهْلُ الْكَرَمِ وَالْعَفْوِ وَالْمَغْفِرَةِ

RABBI IL LAM AKUM MIN AHLI ZAALIKA FA-ANTA AHLUL KARAMI WAL A'FWI WAL MAGHFIRAH

My Lord, if I am not worthy of that, then You are worthy of generosity, pardon, and forgiveness,

وَجُدْ عَلَيَّ بِمَاۤ اَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ لَا بِمَاۤ اَسْتَحِقُّهُ فَقَدْ حَسُنَ ظَنِّيْ بِكَ وَتَحَقَّقَ رَجَاۤئِيْ لَكَ وَعَلِقَتْ نَفْسِيْ بِكَرَمِكَ

WA JUD A'LAYYA BIMAAA ANTA AHLUH, LAA BIMAAA ASTAHIQQUH, FAQAD HASUNA ZANNEE BIK, WA TAHAQQAQA RAJAAA-EE LAK, WA A'LIQAT NAFSEE BI-KARAMIK

so be generous to me according to what befits You, not according to what I deserve — for my thought of You is good, my hope in You is firm, and my soul clings to Your generosity;

فَاَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ وَاَكْرَمُ الْاَكْرَمِيْنَ

FA-ANTA ARHAMUR RAAHIMEENA WA AKRAMUL AKRAMEEN

for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful and the most Generous of the generous.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَاخْصُصْنِيْ مِنْ كَرَمِكَ بِجَزِيْلِ قِسَمِكَ وَاَعُوْذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عُقُوْبَتِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA WAKHSUSNEE MIN KARAMIKA BI-JAZEELI QISAMIK, WA A-U'ZU BI-A'FWIKA MIN U'QOOBATIK

O Allah, favor me exclusively from Your generosity with a generous portion, and I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment,

وَاغْفِرْ لِيَ الذَّنْبَ الَّذِيْ يَحْبِسُ عَلَيَّ الْخُلُقَ وَيُضَيِّقُ عَلَيَّ الرِّزْقَ

WAGH FIR LEEYAZ ZAMBAL LAZEE YAHBISU A'LAYYAL KHULUQA WA YUDAYYIQU A'LAYYAR RIZQ

and forgive me the sin that withholds good character from me and narrows my sustenance,

حَتّٰىۤ اَقُوْمَ بِصَالِحِ رِضَاكَ وَاَنْعَمَ بِجَزِيْلِ عَطَاۤئِكَ وَاَسْعَدَ بِسَابِغِ نَعْمَاۤئِكَ

HATTAA AQOOMA BI-SAALIHI RIDAAK, WA AN-A'MA BI-JAZEELI A'TAAA-IK, WA AS-A'DA BI-SAABIGHI NA'MAAA-IK

so that I may stand upon what pleases You, enjoy Your generous giving, and be blessed by Your abundant favor.

فَقَدْ لُذْتُ بِحَرَمِكَ وَتَعَرَّضْتُ لِكَرَمِكَ وَاسْتَعَذْتُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عُقُوْبَتِكَ وَبِحِلْمِكَ مِنْ غَضَبِكَ

FAQAD LUZTU BI-HARAMIK, WA TA-A'RRADTU LI-KARAMIK, WASTA-A'ZTU BI-A'FWIKA MIN U'QOOBATIK, WA BI-HILMIKA MIN GHADABIK

I have indeed taken refuge in Your sanctuary, presented myself for Your generosity, and sought protection in Your pardon from Your punishment and in Your forbearance from Your wrath;

فَجُدْ بِمَا سَاَلْتُكَ وَاَنِلْ مَا الْتَمَسْتُ مِنْكَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِكَ لَا بِشَيْءٍ هُوَ اَعْظَمُ مِنْكَ

FAJUD BIMAA SA-ALTUK, WA ANIL MAL TAMASTU MINK, AS-ALUKA BIKA LAA BI-SHAY-IN HUWA A'ZAMU MINK

so grant me what I have asked You, and give me what I have sought from You; I ask You by You, not by anything greater than You.

Then prostrate and repeat "YAA RABB" (O my Lord) twenty times, then "YAA ALLAAH" (O Allah) seven times, then "LAA HAWLA WA LAA QUWWATA ILLAA BILLAAH" (there is no power and no strength except with Allah) seven times,

then "MAA SHAAA-AL LAAH" (what Allah wills) ten times, then "LAA QUWWATA ILLAA BILLAAH" (there is no strength except with Allah) ten times, then invoke Allah's blessings upon the Holy Prophet and make your requests.

Dua after the Shaf’ Prayer

Recite right after the Shaf’ prayer, at the last hours of the night:

اِلٰهِيْ تَعَرَّضَ لَكَ فِي هٰذَا اللَّيْلِ الْمُتَعَرِّضُوْنَ وَقَصَدَكَ الْقَاصِدُوْنَ وَاَمَّلَ فَضْلَكَ وَمَعْرُوْفَكَ الطَّالِبُوْنَ

ILAAHEE TA-A'RRADA LAKA FEE HAAZAL LAYLIL MUTA-A'RRIDOON, WA QASADAKAL QAASIDOON, WA AMMALA FADLAKA WA MA'ROOFAKAT TAALIBOON

My God, tonight those who seek You have presented themselves before You, those who intend You have set their aim upon You, and those who ask have hoped for Your bounty and Your kindness,

وَلَكَ فِيْ هٰذَا اللَّيْلِ نَفَحَاتٌ وَجَوَاۤئِزُ وَعَطَايَا وَمَوَاهِبُ تَمُنُّ بِهَا عَلٰى مَنْ تَشَاۤءُ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ وَتَمْنَعُهَا مَنْ لَمْ تَسْبِقْ لَهُ الْعِنَايَةُ مِنْكَ

WA LAKA FEE HAAZAL LAYLI NAFAHAATUW WA JAWAAA-IZU WA A'TAAYAA WA MAWAAHIBU TAMUNNU BIHAA A'LAA MAN TASHAAA-O MIN I'BAADIK, WA TAMNA-U'HAA MAL LAM TASBIQ LAHUL I'NAAYATU MINK

and Yours, on this night, are gusts of grace, rewards, gifts, and endowments which You bestow upon whomever You will of Your servants, and withhold from whoever Your prior care has not preceded.

وَهَاۤ اَنَا ذَا عُبَيْدُكَ الْفَقِيْرُ اِلَيْكَ الْمُؤَمِّلُ فَضْلَكَ وَمَعْرُوْفَكَ

WA HAAA ANAA ZAA U'BAYDUKAL FAQEERU ILAYKAL MU-AMMILU FADLAKA WA MA'ROOFAK

And here am I, Your humble servant, in need of You, hoping for Your bounty and Your kindness;

فَاِنْ كُنْتَ يَا مَوْلَايَ تَفَضَّلْتَ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ عَلٰىۤ اَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ وَعُدْتَ عَلَيْهِ بِعَاۤئِدَةٍ مِنْ عَطْفِكَ

FA-IN KUNTA YAA MAWLAAYA TAFADDALTA FEE HAAZIHIL LAYLATI A'LAA AHADIM MIN KHALQIK, WA U'DTA A'LAYHI BI-A'AA-IDATIM MIN A'TFIK

so if, O my Master, You have shown favor tonight to any of Your creatures and returned to him with a portion of Your kindness,

فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ الطَّيِّبِيْنَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ الْخَيِّرِيْنَ الْفَاضِلِيْنَ وَجُدْ عَلَيَّ بِطَوْلِكَ وَمَعْرُوْفِكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

FASALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIW WA AALI MUHAMMADIN AT-TAYYIBEENAT TAAHIREENAL KHAYYIREENAL FAADILEEN, WA JUD A'LAYYA BI-TAWLIKA WA MA'ROOFIKA YAA RABBAL A'ALAMEEN

then bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad — the good, the pure, the excellent, the virtuous — and be generous to me with Your grace and Your kindness, O Lord of the worlds.

وَصَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَاٰلِهِ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيْمًا اِنَّ اللّٰهَ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ

WA SALLAL LAAHO A'LAA MUHAMMADIN KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA WA AALIHIT TAAHIREENA WA SALLAMA TASLEEMAA, INNAL LAAHA HAMEEDUM MAJEED

And Allah's blessings be upon Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets, and his pure Household, and abundant peace; verily Allah is Praiseworthy, All-glorious.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْۤ اَدْعُوْكَ كَمَاۤ اَمَرْتَ فَاسْتَجِبْ لِيْ كَمَا وَعَدْتَ اِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيْعَادَ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AD-U'WKA KAMAA AMART, FASTAJIB LEE KAMAA WA-A'DT, INNAKA LAA TUKHLIFUL MEE-A'AAD

O Allah, I call upon You as You have commanded; so answer me as You have promised, for verily You do not break Your promise.

Prophet’s Prostration Duas

Recite in prostration:

سَجَدَ لَكَ سَوَادِيْ وَخَيَالِيْ وَاٰمَنَ بِكَ فُؤَادِيْ هٰذِهِ يَدَايَ وَمَا جَنَيْتُهُ عَلٰى نَفْسِيْ يَا عَظِيْمُ تُرْجٰى لِكُلِّ عَظِيْمٍ اِغْفِرْ لِيَ الْعَظِيْمَ فَاِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ الْعَظِيْمَ اِلَّا الرَّبُّ الْعَظِيْمُ

SAJADA LAKA SAWAADEE WA KHAYAALEE WA AAMANA BIKA FU-AADEE, HAAZIHI YADAAYA WA MAA JANAYTUHU A'LAA NAFSEE, YAA A'ZEEMU TURJAA LI-KULLI A'ZEEM, IGHFIR LIYAL A'ZEEM, FA-INNAHU LAA YAGHFIRUZ ZAMBAL A'ZEEMA ILLAR RABBUL A'ZEEM

My silhouette and my shadow have prostrated to You, and my heart has believed in You; these are my two hands and what I have wrought against myself. O Most Great, You are hoped for at every great matter — forgive me the great sin, for none forgives a great sin except the Great Lord.

Raise your head, prostrate again and say:

اَعُوْذُ بِنُوْرِ وَجْهِكَ الَّذِيْۤ اَضَاۤءَتْ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْاَرَضُوْنَ وَانْكَشَفَتْ لَهُ الظُّلُمَاتُ وَصَلَحَ عَلَيْهِ اَمْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَ

A-U'ZU BI-NOORI WAJHIKAL LAZEEE ADAAA-AT LAHUS SAMAAWAATU WAL ARADOON, WAN KASHAFAT LAHUZ ZULUMAAT, WA SALAHA A'LAYHI AMRUL AWWALEENA WAL AAKHIREEN

I seek refuge in the light of Your Countenance, by which the heavens and the earths were illumined, the darkness was dispelled, and the affairs of the first and the last were set right,

مِنْ فُجْاَةِ نَقِمَتِكَ وَمِنْ تَحْوِيْلِ عَافِيَتِكَ وَمِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ

MIN FUJ-ATI NAQIMATIK, WA MIN TAHWEELI A'AAFIYATIK, WA MIN ZAWAALI NI'MATIK

from the sudden onset of Your vengeance, from the turning away of Your well-being, and from the vanishing of Your blessing.

اَللّٰهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِيْ قَلْبًا تَقِيًّا نَقِيًّا وَمِنَ الشِّرْكِ بَرِيْئًا لَا كَافِرًا وَلَا شَقِيًّا

ALLAAHUMMAR ZUQNEE QALBAN TAQIYYAN NAQIYYAW WA MINASH SHIRKI BAREE-AL LAA KAAFIRAW WA LAA SHAQIYYAA

O Allah, grant me a heart that is God-fearing and pure, free of association, neither disbelieving nor wretched.

Then press your face to the ground and say:

عَفَّرْتُ وَجْهِيْ فِيْ التُّرَابِ وَحُقَّ لِيْۤ اَنْ اَسْجُدَ لَكَ

A'FFARTU WAJHEE FIT TURAAB WA HUQQA LEE AN ASJUDA LAK

I have laid my face in the dust, and it is only right that I prostrate to You.

Prayers of the Night

Offer the famous [Namaz of Jafar-e-Tayyaar](F11).

On the mid-Shaban night, offer a four-unit prayer, reciting [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) once and [Surah al-Ikhlas](A116) a hundred times in each unit.

On finishing, say:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْۤ اِلَيْكَ فَقِيْرٌ وَمِنْ عَذَابِكَ خَاۤئِفٌ مُسْتَجِيْرٌ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ILAYKA FAQEERUW WA MIN A'ZAABIKA KHAAA-IFUM MUSTAJEER

O Allah, I am in need of You, and fearful of Your punishment, seeking refuge,

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تُبَدِّلْ اِسْمِيْ وَلَا تُغَيِّرْ جِسْمِيْ وَلَا تَجْهَدْ بَلَاۤئِيْ وَلَا تُشْمِتْ بِيْۤ اَعْدَاۤئِيْ

ALLAAHUMMA LAA TUBADDIL ISMEE WA LAA TUGHAYYIR JISMEE WA LAA TAJHAD BALAAA-EE WA LAA TUSHMIT BEE A'DAAA-EE

O Allah, do not change my name, do not alter my body, do not intensify my trial, and do not let my enemies gloat over me;

اَعُوْذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عِقَابِكَ وَاَعُوْذُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ وَاَعُوْذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَاَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ

A-U'ZU BI-A'FWIKA MIN I'QAABIK, WA A-U'ZU BI-RAHMATIKA MIN A'ZAABIK, WA A-U'ZU BI-RIDAAKA MIN SAKHATIK, WA A-U'ZU BIKA MINK

I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment, I seek refuge in Your mercy from Your chastisement, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and I seek refuge in You from You.

جَلَّ ثَنَاۤؤُكَ اَنْتَ كَمَا اَثْنَيْتَ عَلٰى نَفْسِكَ وَفَوْقَ مَا يَقُوْلُ الْقَاۤئِلُوْنَ

JALLA THANAAA-UKA ANTA KAMAA ATHNAYTA A'LAA NAFSIKA WA FAWQA MAA YAQOOLUL QAAA-ILOON

Exalted is Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself, and above what any speaker can say.

Offer a hundred-unit prayer, reciting [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) once and [Surah al-Ikhlas](A116) ten times in each unit.

A six-unit prayer is also recommended, reciting Surah al-Faatehah, [Yasin](A40), [al-Mulk](A71), and [Surah al-Ikhlas](A116) in each unit; see [Thirteenth of Rajab](X11).
