First Ziyarah

Recitation at the entrance /Izn Dukhool

اللَّهُ اكْبَرُ ٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ

ALLAAHO AKBARUL LAAHO AKBARO

Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great.

لاََ إِِلٰهَ إِِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ وَٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ

LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO WAL LAAHO AKBARO

There is no god save Allah. And Allah is the Most Great.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَىٰ هِدَايَتِهِ لِدِينِهِ

ALHAMDO LILLAAHE A’LAA HEDAAYATEHI LE-DEENEHI

All praise be to Allah for guiding [me] to His religion

وَٱلتَّوْفِيقِ لِمَا دَعَا إِِلَيْهِ مِنْ سَبِيلِهِ

WAT TAWFEEQE LEMAA DA-A’A ELAYHE MIN SABEELEHI

and for leading [me] successfully to His Course to which He has invited (us).

اَللَّهُمَّ إِِنَّكَ اكْرَمُ مَقْصُودٍ

ALLAAHUMMA INNAKA AKRAMO MAQSOODIN

O Allah, You are verily the most Honorable Besought One

وَاكْرَمُ مَاتِيٍّ

WA AKRAMO MAATIYYIN

and the most Honorable Purposed One.

وَقَدْ اتَيْتُكَ مُتَقَرِّباً إِِلَيْكَ

WA QAD ATAYTOKA MOTAQARREBAN ELAYKA

I thus have come to You, seeking nearness to You

بِٱبْنِ بِنْتِ نَبِيِّكَ

BIBNE BINTE NABIYYEKA

in the name of the son of Your Prophet’s daughter,

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ آبَائِهِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

SALAWAATOKA A’LAYHE WA A’LAA AABAAA-EHIT TAAHEREENA

Your blessings be upon him and upon his immaculate fathers

وَابْنَائِهِ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ

WA ABNAAA-EHIT TAYYEBEENA

and pure sons.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَلاَ تُخَيِّبْ سَعْيِي

WA LAA TOKHAYYIB SA’YEE

never frustrate my efforts,

وَلاَ تَقْطَعْ رَجَائِي

WA LAA TAQTA’ RAJAAA-EE

never cut off my hope,

وَٱجْعَلْنِي عِنْدَكَ وَجِيهاً

WAJ A’LNEE I’NDAKA WAJEEHAN

make me illustrious in Your view

فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ وَمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE WA MENAL MOQARRABEENA

in this world as well as the world to come, and make me of those brought near to You.

You may then enter the shrine by preceding your right foot (to the left), saying the following words:

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِٱللَّهِ

BISMIL LAAHE WA BILLAAHE

In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust),

وَفِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ

WA FEE SABEELIL LAAHE

and on the way of Allah

وَعَلَىٰ مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

WA A’LAA MILLATE RASOOLIL LAAHE

and on the norm of the Messenger of Allah (I proceed),

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI

may Allah bless him and his Household.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ

ALLAAHUMMAGH FIR LEE WA LE-WAALEDAYYA

O Allah, (please do) forgive me, my parents,

وَلِجَمِيعِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

WA LE-JAMEE-I’L MOAMENEENA WAL MOAMENAATE

and all the believing men and women.

When you reach the gate of the dome, you may stop there and ask permission of entrance by saying the following words:

اادْخُلُ يَا رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ

A-ADKHOLO YAA RASOOLAL LAAHE

O Allah’s Messenger, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا نَبِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

A-ADKHOLO YAA NABIYYAL LAAHE

O Allah’ Prophet, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

A-ADKHOLO YAA MOHAMMADUBNA A’BDIL LAAHE

O Muhammad the son of `Abdullah, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا امِيرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

A-ADKHOLO YAA AMEERAL MOAMENEENA

O Commander of the Faithful, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا ابَا مُحَمَّدٍ ٱلْحَسَنُ

A-ADKHOLO YAA ABAA MOHAMMADENIL HASANO

O Abu-Muhammad al-Hasan, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْحُسَيْنُ

A-ADKHOLO YAA ABAA A’BDIL LAAHIL HOSAYNO

O Abu-`Abdullah al-Husayn, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا ابَا مُحَمَّدٍ عَلِيُّ بْنَ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

A-ADKHOLO YAA ABAA MOHAMMADIN A’LIYYUBNAL HOSAYNE

O Abu-Muhammad `Ali ibn al-Husayn, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا ابَا جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ

A-ADKHOLO YAA ABAA JA’FARIM MOHAMMADUBNA A’LIYYIN

O Abu-Ja`far Muhammad ibn `Ali, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ جَعْفَرُ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ

A-ADKHOLO YAA ABAA A’BDIL LAAHE JA’FARUBNA MOHAMMADIN

O Abu-`Abdullah Ja`far ibn Muhammad, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا ابَا ٱلْحَسَنِ مُوسَىٰ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ

A-ADKHOLO YAA MAWLAAYA YAA ABAL HASANE MOOSABNA JA’FARIN

O my master Abu’l-Hasan Musa ibn Ja`far, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا ابَا جَعْفَرٍ

A-ADKHOLO YAA MAWLAAYA YAA ABAA JA’FARIN

O my master Abu-Ja`far, may I enter?

اادْخُلُ يَا مَوْلاَيَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ

A-ADKHOLO YAA MAWLAAYA MOHAMMADUBNA A’LIYYIN

O my master Muhammad ibn `Ali, may I enter?

While entering, you may repeat the following statement four times:

اَللَّهُ اكْبَرُ

ALLAAHO AKBARO

Allah is the Most Great.

About the ziyarah form dedicated to Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (peace be upon him), the three master scholars (Shaykh al-Mufid, al-Shahid, and Muhammad ibn al-Mashhadi) have said the following: You may direct yourself to the tomb of Abu-Ja`far Muhammad ibn `Ali al-Jawad (peace be upon him). When you stop near the tomb, you may say the following words:

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WALIYYAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O intimate servant of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA HUJJATAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s argument.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نُورَ ٱللَّهِ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ ٱلأَرْضِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA NOORAL LAAHE FEE ZOLOMAATIL ARZE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s light in the darkness of the earth.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA RASOOLIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ آبَائِكَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA WA A’LAA AABAAA-EKA

Peace be upon you and upon your fathers.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ أَبْنَائِكَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA WA A’LAA ABNAAA-EKA

Peace be upon you and upon your descendants.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ أَوْلِيَائِكَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA WA A’LAA AWLEYAAA-EKA

Peace be upon you and upon your loyalists.

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ أَقَمْتَ ٱلصَّلاَةَ

ASH-HADO ANNAKA QAD AQAMTAS SALAATA

I bear witness that you performed the prayers,

وَآتَيْتَ ٱلزَّكَاةَ

WA AATAYTAZ ZAKAATA

defrayed the poor-rate,

وَأَمَرْتَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

WA AMARTA BIL-MA’ROOFE

enjoined the right,

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنْكَرِ

WA NAHAYTA A’NIL MUNKARE

forbade the wrong,

وَتَلَوْتَ ٱلْكِتَابَ حَقَّ تِلاَوَتِهِ

WA TALAWTAL KETAABA HAQQA TELAAWATEHI

recited the Book as it should be recited,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي ٱللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ

WA JAAHADTA FIL LAAHE HAQQA JEHAADEHI

strove for Allah as exactly as striving should be,

وَصَبَرْتَ عَلَىٰ ٱلأَذَىٰ فِي جَنْبِهِ

WA SABARTA A’LAL AZAA FEE JANBEHI

and endured harm for His sake

حَتَّىٰ أَتَاكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ

HATTAA ATAAKAL YAQEENO

until death came upon you.

أَتَيْتُكَ زَائِراً

ATAYTOKA ZAAA-ERAN

I have come to you, visiting you,

عَارِفاً بِحَقِّكَ

A’AREFAN BE-HAQQEKA

recognizing your right,

مُوَالِياً لأَوْلِيَائِكَ

MOWAALEYAL LE-AWLEYAAA-EKA

declaring loyalty to your loyalists,

مُعَادِياً لأَعْدَائِكَ

MO-A’ADEYAL LE-A-A’DAAA-EKA

and incurring the animosity of your enemies;

فَٱشْفَعْ لِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ

FASHFA’ LEE I’NDA RABBEKA

so, (please) intercede for me with Your Lord.

You may then kiss the tomb and put your both cheeks on it. You may then offer the two-unit prayer of ziyarah, after which you may offer any other prayers. You may then prostrate and say the following words:

إِرْحَمْ مَنْ أَسَاءَ وَٱقَتَرَفَ

IRHAM MAN ASAAA-A WAQ TARAFA

(Please) have mercy upon him who had misbehaved and committed sins,

وَٱسْتَكَانَ وَٱعْتَرَفَ

WAS TAKAANA WA’TARAFA

but he then submitted and confessed.

You may then place your right cheek on the ground and say the following words:

إِنْ كُنْتُ بِئْسَ ٱلْعَبْدُ

IN KUNTO BEASAL A’BDO

If I am the worst servant (of You),

فَأَنْتَ نِعْمَ ٱلرَّبُّ

FA-ANTA NE’MAR RABBO

then You are the All-excellent Lord.

You may then place your left cheek on the ground and say the following words:

عَظُمَ ٱلذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ

A’ZOMAZ ZANBO MIN A’BDEKA

Your servant’s sin has been very flagrant,

فَلْيَحْسُنِ ٱلْعَفْوُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ

FALYAHSONIL A’FWO MIN I’NDEKA

then let Your pardon be very excellent.

يَا كَرِيمُ

YAA KAREEMO

O All-generous!

you may then return to the position of prostration and repeat the following word one hundred times:

شُكْراً

SHUKRAN

Thanks.

In his book of al-Mazar, Sayyid Ibn Tawus says: You may stop at the tomb of Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon him), kiss it, and say the following words:

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA ABAA JA’FARIN

Peace be upon you, O Abu-Ja`far

مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ

MOHAMMADUBNA A’LIYYIN

Muhammad the son of `Ali,

ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلتَّقِيُّ

ALBARRUT TAQIYYO

the righteous, pious,

ٱلإِمَامُ ٱلْوَفِيُّ

AL-EMAAMUL WAFIYYO

and faithful leader.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلرَّضِيُّ ٱلزَّكِيُّ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAR RAZIYYUZ ZAKIYYO

Peace be upon you, O pleased and pure.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WALIYYAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s intimate servant.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نَجِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA NAJIYYAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O confidentially talked by Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَفِيرَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SAFEERAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s emissary.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سِرَّ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SIRRAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s secret.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ضِيَاءَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA ZEYAAA-AL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s brightness.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَنَاءَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SANAAA-AL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s brilliance.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا كَلِمَةَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA KALEMATAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s Word.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَحْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA RAHMATAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s mercy.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلنُّوُرُ ٱلسَّاطِعُ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAN NOORUS SAATE-O’

Peace be upon you, O shining light.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْبَدْرُ ٱلطَّالِعُ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL BADRUT TAALE-O’

Peace be upon you, O rising full moon.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلطَّيِّبُ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAT TAYYEBO MENAT TAYYEBEENA

Peace be upon you, O pure who is the descendant of the pure ones.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلطَّاهِرُ مِنَ ٱلْمُطَهَّرِينَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAT TAAHERO MENAL MOTAHHAREENA

Peace be upon you, O immaculate who is the descendant of the the immaculate ones.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلآيَةُ ٱلْعُظْمَىٰ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL AAYATUL U’ZMAA

Peace be upon you, O greatest sign.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْحُجَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL HUJJATUL KUBRAA

Peace be upon you, O grandest argument.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُ مِنَ ٱلزَّلاَّتِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL MOTAHHARO MENAZ ZALLAATE

Peace be upon you, O purified from slips.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُنَزَّهُ عَنِ ٱلْمُعْضِلاَتِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL MONAZZAHU A’NIL MO’ZELAATE

Peace be upon you, O deemed above unforgivable failings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْعَلِيُّ عَنْ نَقْصِ ٱلأَوْصَافِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL A’LIYYO A’N NAQSIL AWSAAFE

Peace be upon you, O raised high against imperfect traits.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلرَّضِيُّ عِنْدَ ٱلأَشْرَافِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAR RAZIYYO I’NDAL ASHRAAFE

Peace be upon you, O pleased in the sight of the honorable ones.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَمُودَ ٱلدِّينَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA A’MOODAD DEENE

Peace be upon you, O pillar of the religion.

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ وَلِيُّ ٱللَّهِ

ASH-HADO ANNAKA WALIYYUL LAAHE

I bear witness that you are the intimate servant of Allah,

وَحُجَّتُهُ فِي أَرْضِهِ

WA HUJJATOHU FEE ARZEHI

the argument of Him in His lands,

وَأَنَّكَ جَنْبُ ٱللَّهِ وَخِيَرَةُ ٱللَّهِ

WA ANNAKA JANBUL LAAHE WA KHEYARATUL LAAHE

the side of Allah, the best in the view of Allah,

وَمُسْتَوْدَعُ عِلْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَعِلْمِ ٱلأَنْبِيَاءِ

WA MUSTAWDA-O’ I’LMIL LAAHE WA I’LMIL ANBEYAAA-E

the store of the knowledge of Allah and the knowledge of the Prophets,

وَرُكْنُ ٱلإِيمَانِ وَتَرْجُمَانُ ٱلْقُرْآنِ

WA RUKNUL EEMAANE WA TARJOMAANUL QUR-AANE

the cornerstone of faith, and the interpreter of the Qur'an.

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحَقِّ وَٱلْهُدَىٰ

WA ASH-HADO ANNA MANIT TABA-A’KA A’LAL HAQQE WAL HODAA

I also bear witness that whoever follows you has been on the right and true guidance

وَأَنَّ مَنْ أَنْكَرَكَ وَنَصَبَ لَكَ ٱلْعَدَاوَةَ

WA ANNA MAN ANKARAKA WA NASABA LAKAL A’DAAWATA

but whoever denies you and incurs your animosity

عَلَىٰ ٱلضَّلاَلَةِ وَٱلرَّدَىٰ

A’LAZ ZALAALATE WAR RADAA

has been on deviation and perdition.

أَبْرَأُ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ وَإِلَيْكَ مِنْهُمْ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

ABRA-O ELAL LAAHE WA ELAYKA MINHUM FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

I repudiate these in the presence of Allah and you in this world and in the Hereafter.

وَٱلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ مَا بَقِيتُ وَبَقِيَ ٱللَّيْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ

WAS SALAAMO A’LAYKA MAA BAQEETO WA BAQEYAL LAYLO WAN NAHAARO

Peace be upon you as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night.

Then recite this salawaat (invocation of blessings) upon Imam Mohammed Taqi Jawad (peace be upon him)

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AHLE BAYTEHI

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household,

وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ

WA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIBNE A’LIYYIN

send blessings upon Muhammad the son of `Ali,

ٱلزَّكِيِّ ٱلتَّقِيِّ

AZZAKIYYIT TAQIYYE

the pure, the pious,

وَٱلْبَرِّ ٱلْوَفِيِّ

WAL BARRIL WAFIYYE

the righteous, the faithful,

وَٱلْمُهَذَّبِ ٱلنَّقِيِّ

WAL MOHAZZABIN NAQIYYE

the refined, the bright,

هَادِي ٱلأُمَّةِ

HAADIL UMMATE

the guide of the nation,

وَوَارِثِ ٱلأَئِمَّةِ

WA WAARESIL A-IMMATE

the inheritor of the Imams,

وَخَازِنِ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ

WA KHAAZENIR RAHMATE

the hoarder of mercy,

وَيَنْبُوعِ ٱلْحِكْمَةِ

WA YANBOO-I’L HIKMATE

the spring of wisdom,

وَقَائِدِ ٱلْبَرَكَةِ

WA QAAA-EDIL BARAKATE

the leader of blessing,

وَعَدِيلِ ٱلْقُرْآنِ فِي ٱلطَّاعَةِ

WA A’DEELIL QUR-AANE FIT TAA-A’TE

the match of the Qur'an in obedience,

وَوَاحِدِ ٱلأَوْصِيَاءِ فِي ٱلإِخْلاَصِ وَٱلْعِبَادَةِ

WA WAAHEDIL AWSEYAAA-E FIL IKHLAASE WAL E’BAADATE

the distinctive among the Successors in sincerity and worship,

وَحُجَّتِكَ ٱلْعُلْيَا

WA HUJJATEKAL U’LYAA

Your premier argument,

وَمَثَلِكَ ٱلأَعْلَىٰ

WA MASALEKAL A-A’LAA

Your highest example,

وَكَلِمَتِكَ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ

WA KALEMATEKAL HUSNAA

Your most excellent Word,

ٱلدَّاعِي إِلَيْكَ

ADDAA-E’E ELAYKA

the caller to You,

وَٱلدَّالِّ عَلَيْكَ

WAD DAALLE A’LAYKA

and the director towards You,

ٱلَّذِي نَصَبْتَهُ عَلَماً لِعِبَادِكَ

ALLAZEE NASABTAHU A’LAMAL LE-E’BAADEKA

whom You have appointed as signpost for Your servants,

وَمُتَرْجِماً لِكِتَابِكَ

WA MOTARJEMAL LE-KETAABEKA

interpreter of Your Book,

وَصَادِعاً بِأَمْرِكَ

WA SAADE-A’N BE-AMREKA

expounder of Your commands,

وَنَاصِراً لِدِينِكَ

WA NAASERAL LE-DEENEKA

supporter of Your religion,

وَحُجَّةً عَلَىٰ خَلْقِكَ

WA HUJJATAN A’LAA KHALQEKA

argument against Your creatures,

وَنُوراً تَخْرُقُ بِهِ ٱلظُّلَمَ

WA NOORAN TAKHROQO BEHIZ ZOLAMA

radiance through whom darkness is penetrated,

وَقُدْوَةً تُدْرَكُ بِهَا ٱلْهِدَايَةُ

WA QUDWATAN TUDRAKO BEHAL HEDAAYATO

excellent example through whom true guidance is hit,

وَشَفيعاً تُنَالُ بِهِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ

WA SHAFEE-A’N TONAALO BEHIL JANNATO

and intercessor through whom Paradise is won.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَكَمَا أَخَذَ فِي خُشُوعِهِ لَكَ حَظَّهُ

ALLAAHUMMA WA KAMAA AKHAZA FEE KHOSHOO-E’HI LAKA HAZZAHU

O Allah, just as he took his share of reverence for You

وَٱسْتَوْفَىٰ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ نَصِيبَهُ

WAS TAWFAA MIN KHASHYATEKA NASEEBAHU

and received completely his portion of fear of You,

فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ أَضْعَافَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ وَلِيٍّ

FASALLE A’LAYHE AZ-A’AFA MAA SALLAYTA A’LAA WALIYYIN

so (please) bless him with many folds of blessings that You have ever poured down on an intimate servant of You

ٱرْتَضَيْتَ طَاعَتَهُ

IRTAZAYTA TAA-A’TAHU

whose obedience to You has been approved of by You

وَقَبِلْتَ خِدْمَتَهُ

WA QABILTA KHIDMATAHU

and whose servitude has been admitted by You.

وَبَلِّغْهُ مِنَّا تَحِيَّةً وَسَلاَماً

WA BALLIGH-HO MINNAA TAHIYYATANW WA SALAAMAN

Convey to him greetings and salutations from us,

وَآتِنَا فِي مُوَالاَتِهِ مِنْ لَدُنْكَ فَضْلًا وَإِحْسَاناً

WA AATENAA FEE MOWAALAATEHI MIL LADUNKA FAZLANW WA EHSAANAN

and give us - from You on account of our loyalty to him - favors, kindness,

وَمَغْفِرَةً وَرِضْوَاناً

WA MAGHFERATANW WA RIZWAANAN

forgiveness, and pleasure.

إِنَّكَ ذُو ٱلْمَنِّ ٱلْقَدِيمِ

INNAKA ZUL MANNIL QADEEME

You are verily the Lord of eternal favoring

وَٱلصَّفْحِ ٱلْجَمِيلِ

WAS SAFHIL JAMEELE

and nice pardoning.

You may then offer the two-unit prayer of ziyarah and say the supplication, which begins with this statement:

اَللَّهُمَّ انْتَ ٱلرَّبُّ وَانَا ٱلْمَرْبُوبُ…

ALLAAHUMMA ANTAR RABBO WA ANAL MARBOOBO

O Allah, You are the Sustainer and I am the sustained…

In Man-la Yadhahrul Faqih, Shaykh al-Saduq has reported the following: When you intend to visit Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon him), you may bathe yourself and put on two clean (and ceremonially pure) pieces of clothes. You may then say the following words:

َللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIBNE A’LIYYIN

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad the son of `Ali,

ٱلإِمَامِ ٱلتَّقِيِّ ٱلنَّقِيِّ

AL-EMAAMIT TAQIYYIN NAQIYYE

the pious, bright,

ٱلرِّضِيِّ ٱلْمَرْضِيِّ

ARRAZIYYIL MARZIYYE

pleasing, and pleased Imam

وَحُجَّتِكَ عَلَىٰ مَنْ فَوْقَ ٱلأَرْضِ

WA HUJJATEKA A’LAA MAN FAWQAL ARZE

and Your argument against all those who are on the earth

وَمَنْ تَحْتَ ٱلثَّرَىٰ

WA MAN TAHTAS SARAA

and those who are beneath the ground

صَلاَةً كَثِيرَةً

SALAATAN KASEERATAN

with such blessings that are plentiful,

نَامِيَةً زَاكِيَةً مُبَارَكَةً

NAAMEYATAN ZAAKEYATAM MOBAARAKATAN

ever-increasing, pure, blessed,

مُتَوَاصِلَةً مُتَرَادِفَةً مُتَوَاتِرَةً

MOTAWAASELATAM MOTARAADEFATAM MOTAWAATERATAN

continuous, consecutive, and uninterrupted

كَأَفْضَلِ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ أَحَدٍ مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِكَ

KA-AFZALE MAA SALLAYTA A’LAA AHADIM MIN AWLEYAAA-EKA

and with the most excellent blessings that You have ever conferred upon any of Your intimate servants.

وَٱلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

WAS SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WALIYYAL LAAHE

And peace be upon you, O Allah’s most intimate servant.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نُورَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA NOORAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s brightness.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA HUJJATAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s argument.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا إِمَامَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA EMAAMAL MOAMENEENA

Peace be upon you, O leader of the believers,

وَوَارِثَ عِلْمِ ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ

WA WAARESA I’LMIN NABIYYEENA

inheritor of the knowledge of the Prophets,

وَسُلاَلَةَ ٱلْوَصِيِّينَ

WA SOLAALATAL WASIYYEENA

and descendant of the Prophets’ successors.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نُورَ ٱللَّهِ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ ٱلأَرْضِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA NOORAL LAAHE FEE ZOLOMAATIL ARZE

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s light in the darkness of the earth.

أَتَيْتُكَ زَائِراً

ATAYTOKA ZAAA-ERAN

I have come to you, visiting you,

عَارِفاً بِحَقِّكَ

A’AREFAN BE-HAQQEKA

recognizing your right,

مُعَادِياً لأَعْدَائِكَ

MO-A’ADEYAL LE-A-A’DAAA-EKA

incurring the animosity of your enemies,

مُوَالِياً لأَوْلِيَائِكَ

MOWAALEYAL LE-AWLEYAAA-EKA

and showing loyalty to your loyalists.

فَٱشْفَعْ لِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ

FASHFA’ LEE I’NDA RABBEKA

So, (please) intercede for me with your Lord.

You may then pray to Almighty Allah to grant you your personal needs.

Ziyarat from Baqiyat al-Salihat

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْبَابِ ٱلأَقْصَدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAL BAABIL AQSADE

Peace be upon the most straight door (to true guidance),

وَٱلطَّرِيقِ ٱلأَرْشَدِ

WAT TAREEQIL ARSHADE

the most upright path,

وَٱلْعَالِمِ ٱلْمُؤَيَّدِ

WAL A’ALEMIL MO-AYYADE

the Divinely supported knower,

يُنْبُوعِ ٱلْحِكَمِ

YUNBOO-I’L HEKAME

the spring of wisdoms,

وَمِصْبَاحِ ٱلظُّلَمِ

WA MISBAAHIZ ZOLAME

the lantern in darkness,

سَيِّدِ ٱلْعَرَبِ وَٱلْعَجَمِ

SAYYEDIL A’RABE WAL A’JAME

the chief of Arabs and non-Arabs,

ٱلْهَادِي إِلَىٰ ٱلرَّشَادِ

ALHAADEE ELAR RASHAADE

the guide to orthodoxy,

ٱلْمُوَفَّقِ بِٱلتَّأْيِيدِ وَٱلسَّدَادِ

ALMOWAFFAQE BIT-TAAYEEDE WAS SADAADE

and the granted success by means of support and leading to trueness;

مَوْلاَيَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ

MAWLAAYA ABEE JA’FARIN

my master Abu-Ja`far

مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ٱلْجَوَادِ

MOHAMMADIBNE A’LIYYINIL JAWAADE

Muhammad the son of `Ali the Magnanimous.

أَشْهَدُ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

ASH-HADO YAA WALIYYAL LAAHE

I bear witness that you are the intimate servant of Allah;

أَنَّكَ أَقَمْتَ ٱلصَّلاَةَ

ANNAKA AQAMTAS SALAATA

you performed the prayers,

وَآتَيْتَ ٱلزَّكَاةَ

WA AATAYTAZ ZAKAATA

defrayed the poor-rate,

وَأَمَرْتَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

WA AMARTA BIL-MA’ROOFE

enjoined the right,

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنْكَرِ

WA NAHAYTA A’NIL MUNKARE

forbade the wrong,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ

WA JAAHADTA FEE SABEELIL LAAHE HAQQA JEHAADEHI

strove in the way of Allah as exactly as strife should be,

وَعَبَدْتَ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصاً حَتَّىٰ أَتَاكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ

WA A’BADTAL LAAHA MUKHLESAN HATTAA ATAAKAL YAQEENO

and served Allah sincerely until death came upon you.

فَعِشْتَ سَعِيداً

FA-I’SHTA SA-E’EDAN

So, you lived happily

وَمَضَيْتَ شَهَِيداً

WA MAZAYTA SHAHEEDAN

and passed away as martyr.

يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ مَعَكُمْ

YAA LAYTANEE KUNTO MA-A’KUM

Would that I were with you,

فَأَفُوزَ فَوْزاً عَظِيماً

FA-AFOOZA FAWZAN A’ZEEMAN

then should I achieve a great success.

وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

You may then kiss the blessed soil (of the tomb) and place your right cheek on it.

You may then offer the two-unit prayer of ziyarah after which you may pray Almighty Allah for any thing you want.

Dua After Ziyarat

اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ ٱلرَّبُّ وَأَنَا ٱلْمَرْبُوبُ

ALLAAHUMMA ANTAR RABBO WA ANAL MARBOOBO

O Allah, You are the Sustainer and I am the sustained.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْخَالِقُ وَأَنَا ٱلْمَخْلُوقُ

WA ANTAL KHAALEQO WA ANAL MAKHLOOQO

You are the Creator and I am the created.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْمَالِكُ وَأَنَا ٱلْمَمْلُوكُ

WA ANTAL MAALEKO WA ANAL MAMLOOKO

You are the Owner and I am the owned.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْمُعْطِي وَأَنَا ٱلسَّائِلُ

WA ANTAL MO’TEE WA ANAS SAAA-ELO

You are the Granter and I am the beggar.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلرَّازِقُ وَأَنَا ٱلْمَرْزُوقُ

WA ANTAR RAAZEQO WA ANAL MARZOOQO

You are the Provider with sustenance and I am the receiver of sustenance.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْقَادِرُ وَأَنَا ٱلْعَاجِزُ

WA ANTAL QAADERO WA ANAL A’AJEZO

You are the All-powerful and I am the powerless.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْقَوِيُّ وَأَنَا ٱلضَّعِيفُ

WA ANTAL QAWIYYO WA ANAZ ZA-E’EFO

You are the All-forceful and I am the weak.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْمُغِيثُ وَأَنَا ٱلْمُسْتَغِيثُ

WA ANTAL MOGHEESO WA ANAL MUSTAGHEESO

You are the Aide and I am the seeker of aid.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلدَّائِمُ وَأَنَا ٱلزَّائِلُ

WA ANTAD DAAA-EMO WA ANAZ ZAAA-ELO

You are the Everlasting and I am destined to die.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْكَبِيرُ وَأَنَا ٱلْحَقِيرُ

WA ANTAL KABEERO WA ANAL HAQEERO

You are the Significant and I am the trivial.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْعَظِيمُ وَأَنَا ٱلصَّغِيرُ

WA ANTAL A’ZEEMO WA ANAS SAGHEERO

You are the Great and I am the tiny.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَأَنَا ٱلْعَبْدُ

WA ANTAL MAWLAA WA ANAL A’BDO

You are the Lord and I am the slave.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ وَأَنَا ٱلذَّلِيلُ

WA ANTAL A’ZEEZO WA ANAZ ZALEELO

You are the Almighty and I am the humble.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلرَّفِيعُ وَأَنَا ٱلْوَضِيعُ

WA ANTAR RAFEE-O’ WA ANAL WAZEE-O’

You are the Elevated and I am the meek.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْمُدَبِّرُ وَا نَا ٱلْمُدَبَّرُ

WA ANTAL MODABBERO WA ANAL MODABBARO

You are the Manager and I am managed.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْبَاقِي وَأَنَا ٱلْفَانِي

WA ANTAL BAAQEE WA ANAL FAANEE

You are the Eternal and I am mortal.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلدَّيَّانُ وَأَنَا ٱلْمُدَانُ

WA ANTAD DAYYAANO WA ANAL MODAANO

You are the Judge and I am judged.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْبَاعِثُ وَأَنَا ٱلْمَبْعُوثُ

WA ANTAL BAA-E’SO WA ANAL MAB-O’OSO

You are the Resurrector and I am resurrected.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْغَنِيُّ وَأَنَا ٱلْفَقِيرُ

WA ANTAL GHANIYYO WA ANAL FAQEERO

You are the Rich and I am the poor.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْحَيُّ وَأَنَا ٱلْمَيِّتُ

WA ANTAL HAYYO WA ANAL MAYYETO

You are the Ever-living and I am subjected to death.

تَجِدُ مَنْ تُعَذِّبُ يَا رَبِّ غَيْرِي

TAJEDO MAN TO-A’ZZEBO YAA RABBE GHAYREE

You, O my Lord, can find someone to torment other than me

وَلاَ أَجِدُ مَنْ يَرْحَمُنِي غَيْرُكَ

WA LAA AJEDO MAN-Y YARHAMONEE GHAYROKA

but I cannot find anyone to have mercy on me other than You.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَقَرِّبْ فَرَجَهُمْ

WA QARRIB FARAJAHUM

hasten their Relief,

وَٱرْحَمْ ذُلِّي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

WAR HAM ZULLEE BAYNA YADAYKA

and have mercy on my humiliation before You,

وَتَضَرُّعِي إِلَيْكَ

WA TAZARRO-E’E ELAYKA

my imploration to You,

وَوَحْشَتِي مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ

WA WAHSHATEE MENAN NAASE

my disassociation from people,

وَأُنْسِي بِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ

WA UNSEE BEKA YAA KAREEMO

and my intimacy with You, O All-generous.

ثُمَّ تَصَدَّقْ عَلَيَّ فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ

SUMMA TASADDAQ A’LAYYA FEE HAAZEHIS SAA-A’TE

Then, (please) endue me at this very hour

بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ تُهَدِّئُ بِهَا قَلْبِي

BE-RAHMATIM MIN I’NDEKA TOHADDE-O BEHAA QALBEE

with mercy from You by which You tranquilize my heart,

وَتَجْمَعُ بِهَا أَمْرِي

WA TAJMA-O’ BEHAA AMREE

bring together my affairs,

وَتَلُمُّ بِهَا شَعَثِي

WA TALUMMO BEHAA SHA-A’SEE

reunite my scattering,

وَتُبَيِّضُ بِهَا وَجْهِي

WA TOBAYYEZO BEHAA WAJHEE

whiten my face,

وَتُكْرِمُ بِهَا مَقَامِي

WA TUKREMO BEHAA MAQAAMEE

confer honor on my status,

وَتَحُطُّ بِهَا عَنِّي وِزْرِي

WA TAHUTTO BEHAA A’NNEE WIZREE

relieve me from my burdens,

وَتَغْفِرُ بِهَا مَا مَضَىٰ مِنْ ذُنُوبِي

WA TAGHFERO BEHAA MAA MAZAA MIN ZONOOBEE

forgive my past sins,

وَتَعْصِمُنِي فِي مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمْرِي

WA TA’SEMONEE FEE MAA BAQEYA MIN U’MREE

protect me against sinning in the rest of my lifetime,

وَتَسْتَعْمِلُنِي فِي ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

WA TASTA’MELONEE FEE ZAALEKA KULLEHI

employ me in my entire lifetime

بِطَاعَتِكَ وَمَا يُرْضِيكَ عَنِّي

BE-TAA-A’TEKA WA MAA YURZEEKA A’NNEE

in acts of obedience to You and acts that bring about Your pleasure,

وَتَخْتِمُ عَمَلِي بِأَحْسَنِهِ

WA TAKHTEMO A’MALEE BE-AHSANEHI

seal my deeds with the best of them,

وَتَجْعَلُ لِي ثَوَابَهُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ

WA TAJ-A’LO LEE SAWAABAHUL JANNATA

decide Paradise to be my reward for that,

وَتَسْلُكُ بِي سَبِيلَ ٱلصَّالِحِينَ

WA TASLOKO BEE SABEELAS SAALEHEENA

lead me to the path of the righteous,

وَتُعِينُنِي عَلَىٰ صَالِحِ مَا أَعْطَيْتَنِي

WA TO-E’ENONEE A’LAA SAALEHE MAA A-A’TAYTANEE

help me do well with the virtuous of what You have given me

كَمَا أَعَنْتَ ٱلصَّالِحِينَ عَلَىٰ صَالِحِ مَا أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ

KAMAA A-A’NTAS SAALEHEENA A’LAA SAALEHE MAA A-A’TAYTAHUM

in the same way as You have helped the righteous ones do well with what You have given them,

وَلاَ تَنْزَعْ مِنِّي صَالِحاً أَعْطَيْتِنِيهِ أَبَداً

WA LAA TANZA’ MINNEE SAALEHAN A-A’TAYTENEEHE ABADAN

never deprive me of any virtuous thing that You have given me,

وَلاَ تَرُدَّنِي فِي سُوءٍ ٱسْتَنْقَذْتَنِي مِنْهُ أَبَداً

WA LAA TARUDDANEE FEE SOO-ENIS TANQAZTANEE MINHO ABADAN

never send me back to a wicked matter from which You have saved me,

وَلاَ تُشْمِتْ بِي عَدُوّاً وَلاَ حَاسِداً أَبَداً

WA LAA TUSHMIT BEE A’DUWWANW WA LAA HAASEDAN ABADAN

never make my enemy or one who envies me gloat at my misfortune,

وَلاَ تَكِلْنِي إِلَىٰ نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ أَبَداً

WA LAA TAKILNEE ELAA NAFSEE TARFATA A’YNIN ABADAN

and never leave me alone with my own affairs even for a winking of an eye

وَلاَ أَقَلَّ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ وَلاَ أَكْثَرَ

WA LAA AQALLA MIN ZAALEKA WA LAA AKSARA

or less or more than that.

يَا رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

YAA RABBAL A’ALAMEENA

O Lord of the worlds!

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَأَرِنِي ٱلْحَقَّ حَقّاً فَأَتَّبِعَهُ

WA ARENIL HAQQA HAQQAN FA-ATTABE-A’HU

show the right as it is in reality so that I will follow it

وَٱلْبَاطِلَ بَاطِلاً فَأَجْتَنِبَهُ

WAL BAATELA BAATELAN FA-AJTANEBAHU

and the wrong as it is in reality so that I will shun it,

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْهُ عَلَيَّ مُتَشَابِهاً

WA LAA TAJ-A’LHO A’LAYYA MOTASHAABEHAN

never confuse the right and the wrong for me;

فَأَتَّبِعَ هَوَايَ بِغَيْرِ هُدىًٰ مِنْكَ

FA-ATTABE-A’ HAWAAYA BE-GHAYRE HODAM MINKA

lest I will follow my own desires without finding true guidance from You.

وَٱجْعَلْ هَوَايَ تَبَعاً لِطَاعَتِكَ

WAJ A’L HAWAAYA TABA-A’L LE-TAA-A’TEKA

And (please) cause all my desires to follow the obedience to You,

وَخُذْ رِضَا نَفْسِكَ مِنْ نَفْسِي

WA KHUZ REZAA NAFSEKA MIN NAFSEE

take the pleasure of You from the pleasure of myself,

وَٱهْدِنِي لِمَا ٱخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِكَ

WAH DENEE LEMAKH TOLEFA FEEHE MENAL HAQQE BE-IZNEKA

and guide me to the right about which disagreement has taken place by permission of You;

إِنَّكَ تَهْدِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

INNAKA TAHDEE MAN TASHAAA-O ELAA SERAATIM MUSTAQEEMIN

verily, You guide whomever You wish to a straight path.

You may then pray to Almighty Allah for your personal requests and they shall be granted, Allah willing.
